Social media doesn’t sleep

We know, we know, you’re run off your feet. It’s the festive season and everyone has decided they all need their Christmas facials completed by yesterday.

It can be tempting, when you’re busy – and even more so hen thing sloe down after New Year – to let your social media slide. Who has the time this month anyway? And come January, dammit, you’ve earned a break.

But that’s where you’d be wrong, says social media expert Clare Roscelle. “Social media doesn’t sleep, and your followers don’t care that you’re busy. We’re seasoned content consumers and the moment a brand or person we follow stops posting, they’ll get swallowed up by the algorithm…and we’ll forget them fast.”

By all accounts, 2021 isn’t going to be a walk in the park for salon owners. Having one less thing to worry about is surely something we should all be focused on, right? “The last thing you’re going to want to do is spend time getting all of those followers back,” says Sheryl. “It will put a real bitter spin on that time off.”

Schedule, schedule, schedule
If you know you’re going to be too busy to post, plan ahead. “There are a stack of scheduling apps and software you can use, to schedule ahead of time,” says Clare. “Tools such as Hoot Suite, Loomly or Sprout Social allow you to get all ion your content ready to go. You just schedule it ahead of time, knowing your feed will be updated while you’re busy elsewhere.”

Don’t clock off
Ok, so you’ve scheduled your posts and you’re ready to turn off your notifications, right? Stop right there. That’s how fires start. You still need to check in on your posts to see how they’re performing and respond to any queries. “You especially need to be on hand to respond to any complaints or negative comments,” says Clare. “Letting those sit unattended sends out a really off vibe, like you’re not present or don’t care. And that’s not a good look.” Set aside ten minutes a day to skim over, respond to anything urgent, and move on.
