We talk to Brooke Jones, fashion designer and creator of The Little Tanning Dress, a range of post spray tanning dresses designed to leave your clients’ tans intact all the way home. (They’re also fast becoming the salon uniform of choice!)
What are your dresses made of?
The collection of dresses are all made out of a crease free polyester/spandex blend that is silky on your skin and doesn’t blot or absorb your tan like cottons can.
What is the Little Tanning Dress?
It is a range of post spray tanning dresses specifically designed to complement your tan whilst still remaining stylish and fashionable. Little Tanning Dress promises that you will look and feel fantastic whilst ensuring your newly bronzed skin remains completely flawless.
There are six different styles in the range, what are the best sellers?
One of our absolute best sellers would be the “Jessie” jumpsuit because it allows you to sit down while still protecting the tan on your legs. Our “Layla” style is also another great one to have in the wardrobe as it can be worn four different ways.
You are a fashion designer with your own fashion store. How did you get into the beauty industry Little Tanning Dress in your store as well?
Like every other frequent spray tanner I was getting my weekly spray tan and I was having the issue of running around after my tan and not looking fashionable. I then came up with the idea to create a range of tanning dresses that not only protected your tan but are still fashionable.
The uniform component has really grown for you…
Our dresses are so easy and comfortable to wear so why not wear them to work too! The black crease free material makes it a go-to uniform. Some of the styles have a sleeve which is great for hairdressers and then others that can be worn multiple ways are easy to change up for different look. We have bloggers and testimonials showing how people are styling them [on social media] for uniforms.
The dresses are so different to traditional uniforms. What kind of salons are picking them up?
We supply LTD to salons Australia-wide ranging from big wholesalers to small salons. Beauty therapists that stock the brand generally wear them as uniforms while spray tanning and performing services which creates interest from the customer.
Which is the most popular for uniforms?
Totally depends on the persons personality and style. I have noticed that the Indie maxi has been a great one for uniforms as it has a sleeve and is full length so looks professional in the salon. Others who prefer a shorter dress over a maxi have liked the Emmy as it is knee length and still a great shape that can be worn with a bra.
Doing all this on your own is impressive…
Brooke Parry, my sales and account manager, and I we have done the website, the social media, the production, the sales, we do everything in-house.
What’s next for the brand?
We have been overwhelmed in that last year at how well received and quickly the brand has grown. We are really focusing on creating even bigger and better ranges for next season, taking on board constructive feed-back we have received. We are confident the brand will continue to grow and we are so excited to see what the future brings.
