Why This Popular Needling Salon Took on Up-And-Coming Skincare Brand SumaNurica

The Skin Bar is widely regarded for popularising skin needling treatments around Sydney and beyond. For salon founder Samantha Appel, securing the right topical solutions to compliment her treatments is vital. So when she announced she’d be taking on emerging biotech brand, SumaNurica, Hannah Gay sought to understand her ‘why’.

Samantha, this isn’t the first time you’ve spoken with the Professional Beauty team on your booming business! How are things going with you and your line-up of stylish Sydney salons?

Thank you for having me again, Professional Beauty. It’s been an incredible journey for The Skin Bar with our line-up of five Sydney salons, with two more locations in Sydney about to be announced, and our Melbourne flagship opening next month. We have experienced tremendous growth and support from our clients who appreciate our unique approach to skincare.

Our salons have become a go-to destination for those seeking a modern and holistic approach to beauty. We’ve focused on creating an environment that not only caters to skincare needs but also embodies a sense of luxury and comfort.

In terms of business, our results have exceeded expectations. We’ve seen an increasing demand for our signature treatments and personalised skincare routines, which has allowed us to expand our offerings and reach a broader clientele.

2024 is looking to be our biggest year yet; we are thrilled to be expanding interstate this year. This presents an exciting opportunity to introduce The Skin Bar experience to a new audience and further establish ourselves as leaders in the modern skincare industry.”

I understand needling is The Skin Bar’s bread-and-butter. What are the key things you look for in topical solutions to complement your needling treatments?

Absolutely. At The Skin Bar, skin needling is at the heart of what we do. It’s a cornerstone of our approach to skincare, and choosing the right topical solution is crucial to enhance the effectiveness and overall experience of our needling treatments. First and foremost we prioritise ingredients that promote skin health and regeneration. Niacinamide, hyaluronic acid and peptides are key components we seek in topical solutions. These ingredients work synergistically with the micro injuries created during needling, promoting collagen production and improving overall skin texture.”

The Skin Bar has, in previous years, partnered with a range of brands, from Dr Spiller to O Cosmedics and mesoestetic – all established and well-known salon brands. What was lacking in your offering that you sought to fill with SumaNurica?

“I met the team from SumaNurica and loved their passion and approach to skincare. Using biotechnology, they have created products using science in world-class laboratories. The brand’s modern biotech approach to skincare was something I was very interested in at The Skin Bar for our clinics.”

“Choosing the right topical solution is crucial to enhance the effectiveness and overall experience of our needling treatments.”

SumaNurica is still relatively unheard of in Australia. Did you ever feel you were taking a risk by working with an unknown brand?

“No, the science is there and these products have been scientifically proven to work.”

Which SumaNurica products do you find yourself recommending to clients most regularly?

“The Nonapeptide Niacinamide Rejuvenating Serum and Collagen Essence Hydrating Face Mask. Both products are extremely hydrating and repairing for the skin barrier. I love to recommend both of these products post-skin needling and encourage daily use of the Nonapeptide Niacinamide Rejuvenating Serum.”

Any extra stand-out features of the brand worth mentioning?

“The Collagen Essence Hydrating Face Mask is one of the most practical sheet masks I’ve come across. The packaging and tools you receive are very cute and sustainable as well, which we love.”
