Long Beach International Congress of Esthetics and Spa

Spa professionals from every part of the industry came together to forge meaningful relationships and learn from the best at the 2011 International Congress of Esthetics and Spa.

The Long Beach Convention Centre was filled with an energetic spirit of unity, passion and a highly motivated hunger for learning as spa professionals flooded the halls for the 2011 Long Beach International Congress of Esthetics and Spa on September 11th and 12th. Attendance was higher than ever, with a 22 percent boost over last year. The packed house created a bustling, enthusiastic atmosphere, along with incredible vendor sales and abundant networking opportunities.

Attendees at the show represented professionals from every career level and sector of the spa industry. Spa owners, managers, directors, estheticians and manufacturers all came together to take part in one of the longest running skin care and spa conferences, produced by some of the most passionate congress management team in the industry.

A supportive, community-oriented atmosphere prevailed throughout the two-day event, beginning at the Sunday General Session Opening Ceremony. After a collective moment of silence led by conference host and LNE & Spa editor-in-chief Denise R. Fuller to recognize the 10-year anniversary of September 11th, 2001. The conference kicked into high gear with the popular 1992 rock jam “Let’s Get Ready for This” which filled the air, igniting a palpable excitement and energy.

Fantastic lectures and demonstration were vibrantly led by Boldijarre Koronczay on “Eastern Europe Anti-aging Facial Massage Techniques.” The audience then got to hear about a highly specialised sector of the industry from Kris Campbell, who discussed “The Morag Currin Method of Oncology Esthetics.” This key topic on oncology is one of the latest trends in esthetics in the United States. While, Danne M. King discussed how to deal with “Skin Disorders: What to do When You Don’t Know What to do.”

Sunday’s General Session program wrapped up with the LNE & Spa West Award Ceremony, as Fuller presented the grand winners of the regional competition, recognising spas that have demonstrated an exceptional level of excellence in quality, service and innovation.
The fun continued at Monday’s General Session, with more engaging lectures and demonstrations such as “Brows and Only Brows: With Nothing but Wax!” by Wax Queen Lori Nestore. Dr. Jennifer Linder followed with a lecture on “Chemical Peeling: Essential to Overall Skin Health.” Laura Cooksey shared the latest information and techniques for “Acne and Extractions.”

The energy and enthusiasm of the presenters reflected the upbeat mood throughout the conference. Attendees were impressed with the educational lineup’s thorough coverage of issues and topics faced by today’s spa and skincare professionals. “Great show!” raved Linda Turnage, esthetician and owner of Nirvana Skin Care Therapies in Laconia, NH. “Two totally inspiring days. I will definitely be back again next year.”

“It is imperative to stay abreast of the latest in marketing, technology and scientific information in the ever changing world of esthetics,” said Pamela R. Springer, esthetician and founder of The Skin & Makeup Institute of Arizona. “Every year, The International Congress of Esthetics and Spa has consistently offered a full range of innovative classes, national and international suppliers as well as networking opportunities to effectively grow my business.”

The positive impression was mutual, as many attendees mentioned the vendors as one of the elements they especially appreciated at the show.
Dr. Ben Johnson, president of Osmosis LLC, ties it all together with his simple reflection: “Long Beach is quickly becoming the best spa industry conference of the year.”
