Skincare therapists have started treating ageing skin in a radical new way.

Where once skin therapists used to look to their product cupboard when a client walked into the treatment room looking to turn back the hands of time, professionals are now reaching for a fix that’s so high-tech, it wouldn’t look out of place in a sci-fi flick.

Light therapy is a cutting edge new treatment drawing increasing attention thanks to its ability to produce results in clients with wrinkles, fine lines and elasticity loss in as little as half a dozen 30 minute sessions.

How does it work?

Specialised LED lights emit rays that energise cells and stimulate the body’s natural repair processes for building new proteins and regenerating cells. The light works by penetrating the epidermis, stimulating the body’s collagen and elastin production, which plumps up the dermis layer of the skin, gradually pushing out lines and wrinkles.

What type of client is it suited to?

Light therapy works best on clients with mild to moderate signs of ageing, though it can be used on clients with more advanced ageing, who will simply require increased frequency and duration of sessions to see results.

How often should a client have a light stimulating treatment?

Every client will respond differently to light treatments, so its best to schedule continued sessions with your client until their main skin concerns resolve. Typically it takes 4-6 weeks of regular light treatments to see noticeably smoother, firmer skin, however depending on the extent of the skin damage, some clients will start seeing results such as increased radiance an elasticity after a single treatment.
