Beauty House brings Euro elegance to Australian beauty education

Brisbane’s The Beauty House Salon/Academy aims to meet the international benchmark of European beauty education, with intimate classes of 10 or less in an opulent environment of ‘French glamour’.

Owner and Principal Trainer, Jane Walters (pictured, left), and Co-Owner/Beauty Therapist, Amber Daley (pictured, right), both felt that the standard of training in Australia has lost its elegance.

“To be a beauty therapist once meant impeccable presentation, attention to detail and high quality customer service,” Walters said. “We found, after doing significant market research, that most salon owners/managers where not happy to employ ‘just graduated’ therapists as there was more training that they felt needed to be done. Our ethos is to provide the industry with up-to-date, salon-ready therapists with elegance. The Europeans still possess these qualities and that is how we have based our curriculum.”

Perched above the fully functioning Beauty House Salon, the academy offers students practical experience, where they can learn every aspect of a salon business and complete valuable work experience during designated student/client time.

With a combined 40 years’ beauty experience, Walters and Daly have amassed a wealth of knowledge, and a list of areas they feel are neglected by many training schools: demeanour and presentation, retailing and selling, hygiene and cleaning and advanced treatments. Both found that relatively new treatments like peels, micro-dermabrasion and even spray tanning and Brazilian waxing were not taught in many existing certificate and diploma courses.

Daly feels that old-fashioned course content leaves many graduates without the necessary knowledge and experience to work in a quality salon, which results in salons spending excessive time and money on in-salon training.

“Beauty House Academy graduates will emerge as the complete package. Not only will they be qualified therapists, they will be trained in up-to–the-minute treatments, and will have mastered the perfect in-salon demeanour, presentation and elocution,” she said.

Courses on offer include Certificate III in Beauty Services, Certificate IV and Diploma of Beauty Therapy, and Certificate II in Makeup Services. They also offer a wide range of pre- and post-graduate short courses including micro-dermabrasion, chemical peels and skin needling. The academy has been operational since December last year and is fully approved as a registered training organisation by the Australian Government.

Training and in-salon product ranges are Sothys, SkinCeuticals, Skinn, CND, Lycon, SunFX, and Issada Cosmetics.
