Obagi celebrates diversity

Obagi SKINCLUSION ambassador Priyanka Chopra Jonas

Obagi, the first skincare company in the world to include all six Fitzpatrick skin types in its clinical research, has launched SKINCLUSION – a new campaign to increase global awareness of diversity.

SKINCLUSION ambassador Priyanka Chopra Jonas, the actor, producer and activist who Forbes has named as one of the World’s 100 Most Powerful Women for the last two years, will be the face of the initiative.

Priyanka, who has been dedicated to fighting for inclusion and diversity over the course of her 20-year career, said the campaign is close to her heart because it aligns with her values and personal experience.

“The initiative supports the idea that we should be more conscious about everything we do, including how we address the automatic assumptions we make about others based on their skin tone,” she said.

“We all have unconscious bias, and it’s up to all of us to recognise it and be the change we want to see in the world.”

SKINCLUSION encourages people to:

  1. Visit comto view resources from the ICDO (International Cultural Diversity Organisation) and Project Implicit, and take the Skin Tone Implicit Association Test
  2. Join the global dialogue celebrating diversity and inclusion by using #SKINCLUSION on their social channels and share why diversity and inclusion are important to them
  3. Watch, like and share Priyanka’s SKINCLUSION video to keep spreading the word
  4. Follow Obagi social media channels to participate in social challenges led by Priyanka and Obagi throughout the year, including a chance to meet Priyanka at a special SKINCLUSION event

Obagi developed SKINCLUSION to focus on the need for people around the world to be fully inclusive and to recognize their own unconscious biases in regards to skin tone.

Unconscious biases are attitudes and stereotypes that are largely unintentional, automatic and outside of our awareness.

According to Obagi, they can cause “blind spots” that “prevent us from seeing the beautiful humanity we all share”.

“Recognising our own bias may allow us to challenge it, overcome it and ultimately, create a world where diversity is celebrated.”

Obagi president Jaime Castle said SKINCLUSION represents Obagi’s commitment “to elevate the global dialogue about diversity and inclusion, and spark actions that are more inclusive and reflective of all of our beautiful differences”.

As part of the initiative, Obagi is supporting groups who work to expand diversity and inclusion efforts around the world, including ICDO and Project Implicit.

For every social action taken using #SKINCLUSION, Obagi will donate US$1 to support the ICDO and Project Implicit, with a total donation of $150,000.
