“Why can’t makeup be good for the skin?”
Words spoken by Jane Iredale – a former casting director and producer who would go on to launch one of the world’s most recognised mineral makeup brands. This year, the jane iredale brand celebrates its 30th anniversary, having initially launched with its now synonymous Amazing Base Loose Mineral Powder.
“Amazing Base is a cruelty-free foundation, concealer and sunscreen all in one, formulated without talc, synthetic preservatives and dyes. It also delivers superb coverage and broad-spectrum sun protection while soothing and calming the skin.” Jane Iredale explains. “That was unheard of 30 years ago.”
Developing makeup products with a focus on ‘clean’ ingredients did not assure the cult following it would today. In fact, Jane would go on to serve as a pioneer in the clean cosmetics landscape, securing a following amongst beauty professionals and consumers who sought makeup products that would nurture the skin much like skincare products do.
“The beauty landscape 30 years ago was dramatically different than it is today,” said Chris Payne, jane iredale CEO. “The idea of ‘clean makeup’ didn’t exist, and Jane Iredale was the first to challenge convention.”
The brand set up roots in rural Massachusetts, USA, where its headquarters remains today. jane iredale cosmetics can be found in over 50 countries with a strong presence in salons and spas.
“Plastic surgeons and dermatologists were the first to recognise the benefits of our products,” Jane Iredale recalls. “They understood immediately and started using them on patients that had skin issues or had undergone procedures like laser resurfacing. The credibility of the doctors helped to open doors that would have been closed to me.”
In celebration of 30 years of jane iredale, the brand has launched Ready to Bloom – a five-piece collection “that pays homage to the brand’s beautiful beginnings and future growth”, a press statement on the launch reads. The Ready to Bloom collection features: Wildflower PurePressed Eye Shadow Triple, Honeysuckle Eye Shadow Triple, Velvet Petal PurePressed Blush, Flourish PurePressed Blush, and Forever Peach Just Kissed Lip and Cheek Stain.
