Get the look: X-Factor Samantha Jade

Samantha Jade takes out the crown, not only for X-Factor Australia 2012, but also for a rocking stage makeup this week’s finale.

With a background in beauty as a part-time make up artist with the team at Make Up Store Australia, it was no surprise when Samantha stepped onto stage looking absolutely phenomenal. Maria Gabriel, creative director and general manager of Make Up Store Australia, gives the low-down on how to get Samantha’s winning look:

For the stage, your makeup base needs to be perfect, otherwise the lights and cameras can leave you looking washed out, to create the perfect canvas start with Skin Serum which works to prime and protect the skin from your heavy make up application.

Once the skin is primed, apply a layer of oil-free foundation, such as Matt Foundation. The absence of oil in the formula helps to keep your skin from appearing shiny. Blemishes can then be concealed with Cover All Mix and apply powder to set your base, such as Dual Foundation Powder this will ensure a long-lasting base.

The easy way to achieve a glowy look with such heavy makeup is to apply Make Up Store’s Wonder Powder, with its mother-of-pearl pigments it really does make you appear naturally fresh.

For a touch of warmth, apply Blush in Passion to the apples of the cheeks.

Samantha’s eye makeup was amazing and the main feature for her look was a dramatically dark glittery eye makeup teamed with a chic wing-eye. This created maximum impact and beautifully framed her eyes.

To keep dark eye makeup in place, it is always smart to apply Eye Primer over your skin primer. This sets an even base and allows the coloured pigments to really stand out. To set the base for the glitter, apply Gel Eyeliner in Black to the entire eyelid and then follow with a wash of Glitter Eyeliner in Dark Sapphire across the lid for a sparkly base.

To create extra impact and sparkle, Glitter in Scorpio can be pressed on the eyelid. Next, run Eye Pencil in Black along the top and bottom lash lines and the inner rims of the eye. Finally, coat the lashes with Max Lashes Mascara in Black and apply Eyelashes Doll for extra drama.

With such heavy eye makeup, lips should always be kept soft. A pretty nude suffices to add some warmth while not being too bold. Line the lips with Lip Pencil in Sauvage to create a base colour and prevent your lipstck from bleeding. Make Up Store’s Lipsticks not only provide an injection of colour, but are rich with Avocado Oil which moisturises the lips. Our pick to match Samantha’s look is the appropriately named shade, Pretty.

The final feature to Samantha’s winning look was her nails. A neat manicure finished with Nailpolish in Mika creates a statement look.
