Beauty trends for the bridal industry

The bridal beauty scene is a vital arm for many businesses, makeup artists and beauty therapists and, like the industry as a whole, it is seasonally sensitive and trend-driven.

So what do the experts predict and which key look will your wedding clients want this summer?

According to the founding owner of Ethix Makeup Beauty and Styling Yvette van Schie, who is leading the way for bridal beauty in one of New South Wales’ most popular wedding destination, old is new again.

“I have noticed a trend toward more elegant 1940s looks,” Yvette says, noting that the vintage theme of late is still the most sought after trend with brides.

“There will be a carry over of the popular ‘vintage’ look of soft, loose curls pinned to the side with smoky eyes and nude lips, but a brighter version of it with coral glosses taking over from the nudes.”

Lips will take the lead this season, with brides letting their eyes take second place in favour of a pout that pops. Today’s brides are not afraid to make a statement, whether it’s channeling the look of another era or ushering in bright tones, so be sure to stock up on plenty of high-pigmented gloss, lipstick and shadows.

The wedding industry mirrors trends in the greater beauty industry so it’s important to be at the forefront of the latest styles and developments. What’s on the catwalk this season is what your brides will be asking for this summer.

And while it’s important for your work to be contemporary, Yvette warns against being too edgy.

“Choose makeup and hair that is elegant, not fashionable,” she cautions.

Brides are also now more educated than ever, so expect to field questions about which primer you use and if you take a one-bride-fits-all approach and religiously rely on your trusty classic eye technique or whether you are adept at a key eye as well.
