Angels undergo not-so-secret VelaShape up

Ever since People magazine revealed that some of Victoria’s Secret models undergo Velashape III treatments prior to the lingerie brand’s infamous Fashion Show, demand for the body shaping treatment has been steadily increasing.

Late last year People reported that Victoria’s Secrets models – including Lais Ribeiro (who modelled the brand’s fantasy bra at the 2017 Fashion Show) and Candice Swanepoel (who wore the fantasy bra in the 2013 show) – flock to New York’s Erase Spa to undergo VelaShape III treatments “to erase any signs of cellulite on their stomachs, thighs and buttocks”.

Michael Reid, the marketing manager for Syneron Candela (the manufacturer and distributor of VelaShape) in Australia, says the company “received a flurry of phone calls asking for clinic locations” as soon as the report was published online.

“Victoria Secret models are very well known for having blessed figures so it was great to hear that even they have VelaShape treatments for skin tightening and body contouring before their runway shows.’’

According to Reid, VelaShape “uses a combination of Infrared and vacuum coupled radiofrequency technologies” to “heat the fat cells (adipocytes), their surrounding connective septae and the underlying dermal collagen fibres”.

He says this promotes an increase in circulation, lymphatic drainage, cellular metabolism and collagen depositing – and also stimulates fibroblast activity and remodels the extracellular matrix.

“The end result is a localised reduction in skin laxity, volume and an overall improvement in skin structure and texture.

“The average post-treatment reduction is one to three centimeters in circumference and 29 percent in fat layer thickness.”

Although obviously pleased that the Victoria’s Secrets models and other celebrities (including Kim Kardashian who was shown having a treatment during an episode of Keeping up with the Kardashians) are VelaShape clients, Reid stresses they make up a very small percentage of the brand’s happy customers.

“Five million people around the world have had a VelaShape treatment – and 97 percent are satisfied with their results.”
