By Dr Steven Liew

We have now reached a stage that many procedures are available to enhance our physical appearance. We now know that the ageing process is a complex and dynamic phenomenon. Our emotional wellbeing and our physical wellbeing affect our skin health and the degree of our facial and body ageing.

Acupuncture in general and the use of Chinese herbal medicine has played an important role for a lot of people worldwide as part of the established and acceptable form of remedy for various non-life threatening ailments. To date, more and more research has been performed and confirmed the efficacy of this form of therapy.

As a cosmetic plastic surgeon, I felt that it is my responsibility to ensure that my patients are given all the options that are available to optimise their skin health as well as their inner health.

Hence, Shape Clinic, with the help of Miss Claire O’Mara, is the first cosmetic clinic in Australia to offer this form of treatment since we were established three years ago.

The Chinese have been doing it for thousands of years. The concubines had been using acupuncture as a form of cosmetic treatment for their skin. With our knowledge of the science of acupuncture, I am confident that more and more patients will be asking for this form of therapy, for their inner health as well as their external beauty.
