Sydney International Spa & Beauty Expo

The Sydney International Spa & Beauty Expo 2010 was a bustling melting pot for what’s hot and what’s now in both spa and beauty. The latest trends, innovative new products and a stellar lineup of industry experts were showcased to a dedicated audience of salon professionals.

An electric atmosphere filled the huge exhibition space, a sexy summer sound track pumped from the main stage fashion parades whilst the Concept Spa offered a haven of calm amongst the crowds.

Recognising young talent, the makeup and nail awards once again offered visitors a first look at the professional stars of tomorrow; salon and spa owners lapped up the chance to learn from the experts in the straight talking seminars.

The 2010 Sydney International Spa & Beauty Expo set the scene for an exciting year ahead in the business of beauty!

Luxurious stands offering the latest in beauty dominated Hall 1. Bioline Jatò, an opulent salon brand from Italy, exhibited for the first time at the Expo. They launched their Diamond Dust Body Treatment; dust from the precious stone is mixed with natural botanicals to create the ultimate in salon luxury.

Tommaso Corradini, one of the owners flew in from Italy to visit the Expo, “What I like about Beauty Expo is that it’s a captive audience for traders and professionals, the quality of information here is second to none, we’re thrilled to be involved," he said.

Bioline Jatò were represented around the Expo by two, whirling, twirling, mime characters carrying parasols and dressed in floor length giant hoopla outfits, billowing with bright blue, bendy Lycra, avant-garde and only at the Expo!

The quest for flawless skin whilst avoiding treatments under the knife sparked an apparent increase the number of non-invasive cosmetic technologies on offer at the Expo this year.

Kim Thomasson, Chief Educator at Thalgo, presented the Mesolift Treatment, an in-salon technology that helps to plump the skin and smooth fine lines by passing a microcurrent though the upper dermal layers, a cutting edge treatment showcased for the first time at the Sydney International Spa & Beauty Expo.

Skin rejuvenation wasn’t confined to in-salon treatments only. UK based brand Clarisonic showcased their sonic-wave cleansing tool for the first time in Australia. Using sonic technology, the nifty handheld cleansing brush claims to cleanse so effectively that products are more easily absorbed after use.

Salon owners were searching for new ways to promote health and wellbeing. Looking at the bigger picture was Sherry Strong, food philosopher and nutritional specialist, who offered seminar goers an insight into her observations about conventional versus organically produced food and how this can impact on health and beauty.

Beauty, it would appear, blossoms from the inside out and Sherry highlighted the need for a considered approach to nutrition, stating, “Nature has the absolute answers.”

Visitors were given access to Mother Natures beauty cabinet in Organics, a sector designed to promote brands certified as organic. Jala from Couleur Caramel, a French, organic makeup label added: “Its great to be part of this area, the area is bustling right next to the main entrance, highlighting the growing demand and importance for organic beauty products.” Bloom Cosmetics and Babor also flew the flag for organics at the Expo.

The sights, scents and sounds of the Middle East were evoked in the Concept Spa. Craig Howorth of Gwinganna Lifestyle Resort treated visitors to four daily demonstrations of his “Heartfelt Healing” technique, where sound meets massage and movement for a wholly holistic therapy.

Craig talked about his treatments going beyond pampering and becoming an experience, stimulating all the senses. He moved and danced around his subject, a truly unique and innovative technique, ancient in its essence yet a thoroughly modern interpretation of holistic therapy.

Platinum visitors were invited to relax and unwind in the Middle Eastern themed tea room, a sanctuary within the Expo.

Subtle Energies, pioneers in Ayurveda Aromatherapy, were on hand to educate about their use of ancient science in modern day spa space. The delicately fragranced oil filled the Concept Spa and passer-by were handed lime oil infused tissues to revive the senses.
