Get off the Couch and Get Active

Insurance company, AIA Australia is encouraging Australian to get up off the couch and get active during the Olympic Games.

AIA Australia is encouraging all Australians to get active

According to the AIA Healthy Living Index Monitor over half (55 %) of Australian adults admit they don’t exercise regularly, with tiredness (59%) and being time-poor (53%) cited as the main barriers to the treadmill.

The AIA pan Asia-Pacific health survey of 15 markets ranks Australia’s overall health index score as 59 out of a possible 100, below the regional average of 61. The research found, in general, adults in Australia acknowledged they needed to do more to achieve healthy living and are not particularly satisfied with their health.

One of the most critical health concerns across the Asia-Pacific region centres around obesity and weight issues. AIA Australia claims analysis shows cardio vascular disease is currently the second largest cause of all AIA Australia Crisis Recovery claims.

“We can’t all be Olympic athletes but just 30 minutes of moderate exercise every day is enough to improve your health, help you lose weight and reduce the risk of developing disease like Type 2 diabetes and heart attack,” Dr Pramodh Nathaniel, AIA Australia’s chief medical officer, says.
