MBFWA: Napoleon Perdis for Camilla and Marc

Celebrating the tenth anniversary of Australian design duo Camilla and Marc and their first collaboration with Napoleon Perdis, Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Australia charged ahead with its opening collection show.

A cool, calm and collected Perdis took his inspiration for the Camilla and Marc spring summer collection show from the iconic Russian Matryoshka doll: “Like the collection, they are layered, vivid, textural and opulent,” said Perdis.

This modern and sharply elegant mood fuelled a creamy nude look with a naturally worn finish that Perdis described as being quintessentially 24/7: “We went with something a little more progressive and lightened the brows on the girls with foundation for a modern effect. I feel the brows have injected freshness into what is a typically, very classic beauty look. The skin is very clean, with an understated contour and a simple nude lip."

The nude lip owed its high-sheen brilliance to Lip Lacquer in Clearly Glam worn over DéVine Goddess Lipstick in Gamelia, muting away the natural lip line with dabbing not blending, whilst Camera Finish Powder Foundation ensured the setting of a matte finish with a cream highlighter delivering mixed texture.

With fashion stylist Mark Vassalo at the helm, the overall look was one of modern sexiness and pretty intensity; with the building of this intensity in the makeup look, channelling the layers of the Russian Matryoshka doll.

“I like that I can manipulate the face totally as a canvas by mixing texture in cream and powder. It also allows me to create a unified look without colour and intensity, which can look a little bit dated. With the cream over the powder I can easily freshen it up without looking to sharp or edgy and make it look like a natural lived-in look.

“When you’ve been in the industry as long as I have, you know when there has been a lot of colour it’s followed by a lot of nude; but for women it’s a very easy look to pull together,” Perdis said.
