Cosmoprof Bologna ups attendance despite volcanic eruption

The 43rd Cosmoprof Worldwide Bologna in April saw a 4.88 per cent increase in attendance on 2009 despite travel interruptions resulting from Iceland’s volcanic eruption.

The show recorded 146.331 total visitors, with as many as 6.808 visitors more than in 2009.

Highlights included the debut of Discover Beauty at Bologna, on the strength of its first three editions at Cosmoprof North America. More than half of the pre-scheduled one-to-one meetings, 70 out of 120, were confirmed between buyers and emerging brands for Discover Beauty, despite the airspace shutdown between Paris and London.

The Vanity Fair Pavilion was a cosy fashion-style-wellness area where beauty brands treated celebrities and journalists to a multi-sensorial experience. Brands included Bioline, Carita, Comfort Zone, Coppola, Diesel Profumo, Lancaster, L’Oréal Paris and Revlon.

The “Green-volution Room” hosted talks on eco-conception, sustainable development, recycling and environment protection and Aveda founder, Horst M.Rechelbacher, was honoured as a Visionary Man of Cosmoprof.

The Spa & Beauty Symposium covered topics including Infusing Local Culture into the Spa Concept & Development Process; Zero Impact Day – Stop The Spa Green-washing and How the Spa and Beauty Salon Industry Benefit Each Other.

Google workshops outlined the potential of the online market for the beauty sector, identifying the most effective strategies. Attendees learned how Google’s platforms can help them grow visibility and awareness of their brand on the web, leading to increased leads and sales.

Beauty bloggers occupied two areas in the Service Centre, with 14 cameras covering the entire exhibition in real-time.

For the first time, inclusion of the Nails area in the fair’s halls proved successful, with organisers saying it confirmed that the Nail sector has become “an undisputed fashion accessory trendsetter”.

Aureliana De Sanctis, MD SoGeCos S.p.A., said:
“The [statistics] have enormous value, considering we think we lost 18 per cent of attendance due to the [volcanic eruption] in Iceland. Our thanks to the exhibitors who trusted in the exhibition, to the publishers who supported it and to the alternative media used: TV, Google, and the website, which gave a fantastic contribution of information and visibility. Bloggers have posted some 400 telematic contests. Hence, this is a success that shows how much the sector is vital in terms of production and how it is ready to welcome new and groundbreaking ideas and projects.”
