Clients increasingly read reviews online before booking appointments

Forget trial and error when it comes to finding the perfect hairdresser or beauty therapist, more Aussies are now looking to online 'snip and tell' reviews before booking beauty appointments.

Since launching last year as Australia's first 'virtual beauty marketplace', traffic to mylocalsalon.com has increased over 150%, with over 33,000 users logging on to 'rate' their experience, and over 13,000 leaving written reviews.

CEO Rebecca Randle said the last year has seen mylocalsalon transform the beauty and hair industries, just as other directory websites have done with airline and accommodation.

"With 540 businesses now listed, mylocalsalon has become a dynamic forum for users to share their experiences and gain access to uncensored feedback from a wide range of real people," Ms Randle said.

"Whereas they once relied on their real-life social networks for salon recommendations, customers now have access to thousands of other like-minded people online."

According to Ms Randle, the weekly 'specials' offerings on the Mylocalsalon website, have also received an overwhelmingly positive response from consumers looking to get more bang for their beauty buck.

"Our last-minute 'specials' always generate huge interest from our customers, with some of our member salons offering up to hundreds of dollars off single treatments," said Ms Randle.

"For people on a tighter budget, taking advantage of the weekly specials is a great way to save money without having to compromise their beauty routine."

mylocalsalon.com also boasts a revolutionary online booking system that allows customers to search and make appointments directly into salon appointment books, anywhere anytime – 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
