3 Great Beauty Jobs Across Australia This Week

By Kirstie McDermott

There are now more women in employment in Australia since at least 1978, according to recent figures from the Australian Bureau of Statistics.

The number of unemployed women fell by 17,800 since October 2022, while the female unemployment rate also declined to 3.3% in April of this year.

That is good news for beauty pros, because according to recent statistics, there are 35,000 hairdressing and beauty services businesses in Australia, employing 80,000 workers, and 97% of those employees are female.

Even though the labour market is cooling a little––job vacancies are now 9% below a peak experienced in May 2022––there is still plenty of opportunity for a new job or even a career change.

More positive news for job seekers has come in the form of the Annual Wage Review (AWR) 2022-23. The Fair Work Commission has increased the national minimum wage and award minimum wages, and so as of the start of July 2023, the minimum wage has increased to $882.80 per week––or $23.23 per hour.
