Glow Medispa Founder Applies Lessons from Endota and Melanie Grant for Her Own Business

Elisa Osmo is a qualified dermal therapist and the founder of Glow Medispa in inner-city Sydney. Hannah Gay met Elisa to hear what learnings she’s taken from some of the country’s best known aesthetic establishments to place into her own business.

Elisa, what is the highest qualification you’ve attained?

“I graduated from Torrens University with diplomas in Dermal Therapy and in Beauty/Spa Practices. These courses provided me with a foundational understanding of skincare and wellness.”

You have worked in distinguished establishments such as Endota Spa, Melanie Grant, and Face Plus Medispa. Were your experiences at each business much the same? If not, what set each apart?

“Each position I’ve held has offered unique experiences that have significantly contributed to my professional development.

At Endota Spa, I honed my foundational skills in massage techniques, learning to deliver a relaxing and luxurious experience during facials. At Melanie Grant, I received extensive training in customer service and etiquette, particularly in engaging with high-profile clientele. I also gained experience in working with cosmeceutical skincare products.

My time at Face Plus Medispa was a pivotal point in my career, where I delved into advanced treatments and modalities. This included lasers, skin needling, advanced peels, and scar revision procedures, often collaborating with surgeons and cosmetic injectors. During this time, I developed essential skills in recognising the unique nature of each individual’s skin and the necessity of tailoring treatments for optimal results.

Throughout my career, I have learned the importance of customisation, recognising that a one-size-fits-all approach is ineffective.”

When it came to opening your own business, what were you aiming to implement that you felt other businesses were lacking?

“When I decided to open my own business, I aimed to integrate several key elements. First and foremost, I wanted to prioritise mindful relaxation, creating a space where clients can unwind and de-stress during their treatments.

Personalised care and tailored treatments are also paramount. My goal is to provide each client with a unique experience that addresses their specific skincare needs and concerns. I am committed to offering expert advice and ongoing support. This involves not only providing guidance during treatments but also empowering clients with the knowledge to better care for their skin between visits, ensuring continuous support and engagement. This is an area I found lacking in most other businesses.

My business philosophy centres on treating skin conditions both internally and externally, embracing a holistic approach to skincare. I want clients to understand that skincare encompasses not only topical applications but also nourishing the body from within.

Ultimately, I aim to create a sanctuary where self-care is a priority. I want clients to relax and experience tangible improvements in their skin health. Each treatment is meticulously tailored to meet their unique needs, ensuring they receive the personalised care their skin deserves.”

“Throughout my career, I have learned the importance of customisation, recognising that a one-size-fits-all approach is ineffective.”

Describe your typical clientele.

“My clients are a diverse group, encompassing various backgrounds, ages, and skin types. Many of them are proactive about their skincare and seek professional assistance to address specific issues and achieve their skin goals.

I frequently work with individuals who prioritise self-care and recognise the value of investing in their skin health. This includes busy professionals who appreciate the opportunity to relax and rejuvenate during their treatments. I also assist clients with specific skin concerns such as acne, aging, hyperpigmentation, and sensitivity. These clients highly value personalised treatment plans tailored to their unique needs.

Additionally, I welcome clients interested in a holistic approach to skincare, understanding that internal health affects external appearance. They often seek advice on skincare products, lifestyle changes, and diet to support their skin from the inside out.

Overall, my clients share a desire for expert skincare solutions, personalised care, and a holistic approach to achieving healthy, glowing skin.”

Which skincare brands and devices have you elected to work with at Glow Medispa?

“At Glow Medispa, I have meticulously selected skincare brands and devices that align with my commitment to offering effective, results-driven treatments while prioritising the skin health of my clients.

For skincare products, I have partnered with Dr. Spiller, O Cosmedics, and Medik8. These brands offer a comprehensive range of high-quality products and treatments designed to address various skin concerns, including acne, aging, pigmentation, and sensitivity. They are renowned for their science-backed and innovative solutions.

For advanced devices, I have chosen the Ultraformer III from Cryomed Aesthetics for non-invasive skin tightening. This HIFU (High-Intensity Focused Ultrasound) device targets deep skin layers to stimulate collagen production, providing an immediate lift and firmer, more youthful appearance. Dermapen is my preferred choice for skin needling, which we use in conjunction with Dermaceuticals for customised infusions that maximise benefits for our clients’ skin. Additionally, we utilise an LED therapy device from Cryomed to reduce inflammation, stimulate collagen production, and enhance overall skin health.

By partnering with these top skincare brands and employing advanced devices, we ensure our clients receive the highest level of care and achieve outstanding results on their skincare journey at Glow Medispa.”

What are you looking for when it comes to skincare and devices?

“For skincare products, I seek brands that are scientifically backed and formulated with high-quality, potent ingredients. I prioritise products capable of addressing a wide range of skin issues, enabling me to customise treatments for each client. Additionally, I value companies committed to sustainability and ethical practices.

When selecting devices, I prioritise effectiveness and safety, choosing only FDA and TGA-approved equipment supported by clinical studies. I also consider ease of use, client comfort, and minimal downtime to ensure a superior experience.

My goal is to provide skincare solutions and treatments that deliver visible results while maintaining the highest standards of safety and efficacy.”

I can see on your website you operate a membership program for your clients. Why did you feel establishing this program was important? Are all clients required to undertake a membership in order to be treated by you?

I established a membership program for my clients to encourage adherence to a consistent skincare routine. Regular treatments, ideally every 4-6 weeks, are crucial for achieving optimal results and maintaining healthy skin. This schedule aligns with the skin’s natural cycle, enhancing the effectiveness of treatments and ensuring long-lasting benefits.

Memberships are not mandatory; I also provide walk-in pricing for those who prefer a flexible schedule or require less frequent treatments. However, through memberships I aim to facilitate clients’ commitment to their skincare goals by offering discounted rates on treatments and access to exclusive deals. This approach makes regular treatments more affordable and emphasises the importance of maintaining a consistent routine.”

What are your current short and long-term goals for your business?

“In the short term, my objective is to establish a strong presence in the local community and build a loyal client base. I am committed to providing exceptional service and effective treatments to every client, ensuring their experience exceeds expectations and fosters repeat visits.

Looking ahead, I aspire to open a standalone location for Glow Medispa and build a team of professionals who share my passion for skincare.

Ultimately, my goal is to establish Glow Medispa as a trusted destination for comprehensive skincare.”
