Australian makeup artist, Mia Connor, headlines Nuvocca Beauty College Melbourne’s open day.
Mia Connor, who was named Makeup Artist of the Year at last year’s Australian Beauty Industry Awards, shared her passion for education along with tips for making it in the industry at Nuvocca‘s Melbourne campus last Saturday.
“For any budding makeup artists, I say give it your best,” says Connor who was in Brisbane turtoring professionals at the 2016 Brisbane Hair and Beauty Expo. “You don’t want to have regrets in not pursuing a passion.
“Makeup is definitely a feel-good job. It’s very rewarding, making people so happy and confident about the way they look. I can wholeheartedly say I love my job, which is a rarity.”
One of the most important pieces of advice Connor had for students is to gain as much work experience as possible while studying.
“Education is key,” she says. “Makeup can be a very solo career path and you are often working by yourself a lot of the time, so when you get a chance to see other artists at work, whether that be by assisting or attending master classes, take every opportunity.”
Nuvocca Melbourne campus manager, Jodie Muscat, says she was thrilled to have Connor at the open day as she is so dedicated to beauty education.
“Mia is extremely talented and also very passionate about education within the beauty industry,” says Muscat. “I think it will be a great opportunity for our students to meet her and hear the steps that she took to be where she is today.”
Leading beauty brands Dermalogica, Inika Organic Cosmetics, MT Medical, Le Salon Beauty Supplies, Evelyn Faye Nutrition and Dermox Injectable Aesthetics also presented alongside Connor, showcasing all the different pathways available to beauty students.
