The Make-Up Foundation Academy and Store launch in Brisbane

With a list of credentials that includes winning a Bafta and an Emmy for her work on Jane Eyre, Nicola Richards has now added her first Training Academy and Pro Make-Up Store in Tingalpa, Brisbane, to her list of achievements.

Friday evening saw the official launch of The Make-Up Foundation store and Academy in Brisbane with special guest Donna Mee. Guests were treated to goody bags, a candy bar, champagne and makeup demonstrations from Nicola Richards and Donna Mee.

The Make-Up Foundation began trading via the internet to makeup professionals and beauty enthusiasts in 2008. The company soon grew and now supplies wholesale and retail to a loyal following of professional retailers and makeup artists and acts as distributor for some well-known brands.

Offering professionals a trade discount of up to 75 per cent off the RRP, The Make-up Foundation is fast growing in its reputation for professional quality products at a fraction of the price.

The Academy
The Make-up Foundation Academy has been established to train newcomers and professional makeup artists to the highest standards and increase the skills base of those already working in the industry.

Nicola wants to pass on the wealth of experience she has gained over the last 14 years, during her time with the BBC and in the UK film industry in both hair, makeup and special FX.

Previous clients have included Keira Knightly, Scarlett Johansson, Joan Collins, James McAvoy, Kelly Macdonald, Sam Neill, Emmy Rossum, Graham Norton, Marc Almond, Rowan Atkinson, Hugh Grant, Danny Dyer, Ray Winston, Maxine Peak, Naomie Harris and many more.

Classes at the academy will be taught by Nicola herself and her manager Abbie Pryce, who also has over 11 years’ experience in the UK Film and TV industry.

Nicola says, “We hope to inspire those already in the industry to increase their skills in all areas and learn from some of the world’s finest. Sharing my expertise is what I love doing, you never stop learning in this industry and our short courses are a chance to build new skills and develop as an artist.”

The studio space is fully equipped with 10 Professional Make-Up stations, chairs, LCD TV, internet access, kitchenette and access to our reference library and is available for hire.

A fully equipped photographic studio will opened at the academy in March 2013, with a new addition to the team, a professional film and TV videographer and photographer, Keith Bainton of Rumpunch Studio.

Adding his wealth of knowledge Keith will be offering full photographic and videography services for Make-up artists and hairdressers shooting academy work and private portfolio shoots.

Scheduled courses include principals of Make-Up artistry, Bridal Hair Styling for Make-up Artists, Advanced Hair Design Techniques, Introduction to Special FX, Advanced Special FX, Bridal Master Class, Wig and Facial Hair – Applying & Making, Portfolio and career Days.

The addition of the make-up Store downstairs adds an extra dimension to the academy and a sampling venue and meeting place for wholesale and professional customers.
