Daylesford massage event aims to smash world record

The Massage en Masse event in Daylesford, Victoria on March 30 is aiming for a Guinness world record.

The world record attempt will see qualified massage therapists and volunteers take part in a 15-minute massage at Lavandula Lavender Farm (pictured)near Daylesford on Tuesday, 30 March from 8am. A representative from the Guinness Book of Records will attend the event.

The current record for the largest ever simultaneous massage is 167 people set in America in 2009.

Event organisers are calling for formally qualified Victoria-based massage therapists to register to participate. Beauty therapists with massage qualifications are also eligible to register.

The event will be covered on Channel 9’s Today Show, with Sophie Faulkner as MC.

Participants will receive a branded t-shirt, morning tea including Lavandula’s famous lavender scones, a bottle of wine and sparkling mineral water, and a certificate of participation and a photo of the world record attempt.

Tourism and Major Events Minister, Tim Holding, said the record attempt is part of Tourism Victoria’s $7.3 million Daylesford. Lead a double life campaign which stars Australian actress Isabel Lucas.

“This world-record setting attempt will showcase Daylesford’s and Victoria’s spa and wellbeing credentials to visitors,” Mr Holding said. “Tourism Victoria’s Daylesford campaign is helping to position Daylesford and the whole of Victoria as the best place in Australia to come for a spa and wellbeing holiday. Daylesford’s mineral springs, boutique accommodation, art galleries, outstanding restaurants and proximity to Melbourne make it a great year-round tourism destination.

Mr Holding added that spa-goers are an important and rapidly growing market, particularly amongst baby boomers and noted the opportunity for Victoria to be the spa market leader and attract big spending tourists.
