OPI take us to San Francisco

OPI Australia held a launch at The Sailor’s Club, Rose Bay, yesterday, to introduce beauty media to their up-and-coming collections for 2013, including their fall/winter San Francisco collection.

The grey Sydney sky provided the perfect backdrop for a San Francisco theme

In honour of their San Francisco collection, the city itself was the theme of the morning and in true party-style, guests were treated to jazz music, manicures, tea readings and visit to Alcatraz (a convict-style photo booth).

Lisa Miller, MadDog PR, kicked off the presentation, introducing OPI CEO and founder, George Schaeffer, who gave a brand presentation. The presentation began with a screening of OPI’s first international short film Instinct of Color which pays hommage to the brand’s culture of colour through four women who communicate with dance and colour.

Referring to his patented “lacquer” name and formula, Schaeffer gave insight into the brand's history: “In 1989, OPI reinvented an old standard in polish. We literally created an entirely new beauty category on the premise that nails are an essential fashion accessory. Today nails are a multi-million dollar industry – bigger than lipstick.”

He said OPI success can be attributed to the fact they are always trend setting and new; inventing and reinventing. “We create new effects and textures that meet fashion’s edge… We give permission to wear the unexpected. Innovations like Shatter are perfect for us as we are not afraid to bend the rules.”

Joining him was Bill McKendrick, CEO of OPI’s Australasian supplier International Beauty Supplies, James Carroll, General Manager of International Beauty Supplies and Scott Smith, Asia Pacific account manager for OPI.

The new San Francisco collection features 12 high-shine lacquer shades and three Liquid Sand lacquers. The collections’ colours have been chosen to represent the city’s “European flair where distinct west coast attitude meets high fashion inspired urban shades,” with names like “First Date at the Golden Gate” (a shimmery Ruby), “I Knead Sour-Dough” (a warm toasty brown) and “Haven’t the Foggiest” (misty grey).

The collection video demonstrated the multi-faceted city and colours and styles OPI have interpretted to represent it.“The San Francisco collection by OPI perfectly represents this season’s must-have hues. How will you colour your life with OPI this season?” Schaeffer added.

Other collections featured at the event include Couture De Minnie, inspired by fashion icon Minnie Mouse and The 007 Bond Girls, celebrating some of the women who have captured Bond’s attention of the years.
