Minx files patent infringement lawsuit against SheeKee

On Friday, June 17, 2011, Minx, Inc. filed a complaint for patent infringement against SheeKee, LLC and its principal owners Nickole Orton, James Greg Bloomfield and Brandon West, in the United States District Court for the Southern District of California.

Dawn Lynch-Goodwin and Janice Jordan

Minx was co-founded in 2007 by Janice Jordan and Dawn Lynch-Goodwin. The company is a leader in developing and distributing high-fashion and cutting-edge nail designs and prints.

Jordan has filed numerous patent applications in the United States and throughout the world to protect the Minx technology.

Earlier this year, the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office issued U.S. Patent No. 7,861,730 entitled, "Methods and Devices for Applying Solid Nail Coatings to Mammalian and Artificial Nails," to Jordan who granted an exclusive license to Minx.

The Minx complaint alleges that SheeKee is directly infringing the Minx patent and inducing salons and manicurists around the country to also infringe. Minx previously warned SheeKee's owners of its infringing activities. When they failed to take corrective action, Minx had no choice but to pursue legal action.

"For years we have worked very hard to develop the technology behind Minx's products and to protect our intellectual property," says Jordan.

Lynch-Goodwin adds, "We intend to aggressively enforce our patent rights to protect the market and ensure the quality of the products sold to our customers. We respect the intellectual property rights of others and we expect that our competitors will do the same.”
