Classic bridal beauty

Founder, owner and front man Mika Liias has come a long way since opening his first store in Stockholm in 1996. The concept hasn’t changed from the start; the idea is to provide the customer witha  personal service, competent advice and top quality products at affordable prices. The thought behind Make Up Store’s courses is to give customers more than a makeover; the knowledge they need to become their own makeup artist.

A dedicated makeup team in Australia, headed by Maria Gabriel, general manager and head makeup artist, ensures Australian customers are kept aware of the latest trends, products and techniques. Getting back to bridal makeup, Maria says it is can be a fulfilling and fun to do your own wedding makeup. It's all about learning the art of applying beautiful makeup to bring out the beauty in you.

Maria says she always starts with Vitamin D Oil Face Primer which is silky and soft, preparing the skin for flawless finish. Next, she recommends using Cover All Mix, a concealer trio, to conceal any blemishes on the skin,“This is such a versatile product and a real must for brides,” says Maria. “I often mix the yellow with the beige to cover redness and blemishes and the pink and beige, mixed with a little moisturiser, for under eye dark circles, creating a beautiful canvas.” Cover All Mix comes in Light and Dark to suit a wide range of skin tones.

When it comes to foundation, it depends on your skin type but Matt Foundation is popular with brides due to its long wearing formula which prevents excess shine while looking radiant. Maria's next top tip for brides is to use the Eye Primer all over the eyelid and brow bone to ensure eyeshadow stays put from walking down the aisle to the last dance. She then sets the eyelids with translucent powder, as well as the whole face.

Some of the most enviable bridal looks created with Make Up Store products incorporate a number of their Microshadow eyeshadows – Muffin is not only a great eyeshadow base colour but can also be used as a highlighter to add extra dimension to a look and looks stunning in photos. Make Up Store artists will teach brides-to-be step-by-step how to create their perfect look and take time to explain how to apply multiple eye colours. “Placement is very important and may seem complicated but with a little practice and patience can become second nature. Once you know how to apply eyeshadow correctly and to the best effect, many brides decide to use the technique every day and not just for their wedding!” says Maria.

To create a touch of Hollywood glamour to the look, winged or straight black eyeliner can be applied to the upper lash line. For inexperienced ladies, Maria would recommend using the Black Pencil to create the definition on the lash line then an Angle Brush to smudge it out and hide any uneveness. Next, she suggests using a dark eyeshadow to go over the line and cement the colour. One of her favourite shades for adding further definition and a slight smokiness to a bridal look is to use the Microshadow in Night Fall – a soft charcoal shade that can be worked into the lashline and lower eyelid crease.

Mascara and individual false lashes, which again take a little practice, are a must for brides wishing to set hearts a flutter on the big day. Maria has one more secret up her sleeve for achieving the most beautiful eye makeup and that is to add Vanilla, a cream Eye Pencil, all the way along the waterline. She finishes by placing the versatile Muffin Microshadow over the liner, just on the inner corners. This adds a touch of sparkle to the eyes.

To add soft definition to the brows, another favourite Make Up Store product is the Tri-Brow powder palette which one can mix to achieve the perfect shade. “I often still apply an eye brow pencil first, to add volume and define the eyebrow shape,” says Maria. “But the powder just softens the look and fills in any gaps. Tri-Brow is also a makeup must-have since it can also be used to create smokey eye makeup.” The eyebrows can be done before or after the eye makeup.

For a soft, natural or subtle smokey eye makeup, Maria recommends a pop lip colour for those ladies who dare. Make Up Store lipsticks have matching Lip Liners which are key to defining the lip shape and helping the lipstick last longer. Their blushers too have been designed to complement the lipsticks and finish a gorgeous bridal makeup. “People tend to get a build up of blusher towards their ears. Start by applying a little to the apples of your cheeks – working from the inside out and make sure it is well blended. A little goes a long way and you can always add more! Complete the look by adding a highlighter such as Muffin to the cheekbones.”
