Salon Melbourne 2012 presents one of the hottest makeup artists in the industry, Nicola Burford, who will showcase the latest tips, techniques and trends direct from the international catwalks live on the main stage at the expo.

One of Australia’s top makeup artists, Nicola Burford has more than 20 years experience in the international makeup industry, creating looks for celebrities including Fergie and Dita Von Teese. Since 2001 she’s been a favourite at international collections in New York, Paris, and Milan. Locally, as director, Nicola led teams of artists for Australian Fashion Week in Sydney and Melbourne.

1. What can visitors expect at your session at Salon Melbourne?
Visitors will get an in-depth insight into the upcoming trends in makeup for AW2012 as seen at the recently launched International Fashion weeks to inspire and keep you ahead of the rest! There will be a demonstration of a key trend, with tips and tricks and product insight on how to achieve the look. There will be discussion on how all the makeup trends compliment the hair trends of the season, and how they can be translated into realistic makeup ideas for your clients, taking your customer service to a whole new level.

2. How relevant do you think Salon Melbourne is to industry professionals in hair and beauty?
Salon Melbourne is extremely relevant to industry as it offers hair and beauty professionals not only the opportunity to discover new and exciting innovations to play with and learn about but also mingle and meet peers, attend invaluable master classes and demonstrations from industry leaders and get ‘up close and personal’ with to inspire and educate.

3. How will your session make a difference to their professional skill and technique?
My session will make a difference to the attendee’s professional skill and technique as I will be demonstrating and offering tips, tricks, product knowledge and insights to take back to their businesses, which are relevant to their client base. This will in turn increase their and personal confidence and professional integrity as industry leaders themselves.

As an industry professional it is so important to attend Expo’s such as Salon Melbourne. Our industry’s pulse is fed on new innovations and ideas, trend and new technique. 5. What is your number one piece of advice for someone trying to break into the industry?
My number one piece of advice for someone trying to break into the industry is to stay focused on your dream! Seek and stay open to all opportunities that present themselves, learn from as many industry professionals as possible and do everything with the utmost grace and integrity.

6. Trend forecast for 2012 or favourite trend at the moment?

One of my favourite trends of the moment is the bold lip – it adds instant glamour, can be adapted to suit anyone at any age and is the simplest way to stay on trend.
