Bobbi Brown Makeup Masterclass Sydney

Bobbi Brown Australia held a Makeup Masterclass sponsored by Mastercard’s Priceless Sydney on Monday 26 November.

Director of artistry and education Kai Vinson

Taking place upstairs in Otto Ristorante, Woolloomooloo, director of artistry and education Kai Vinson gave a step-by-step demonstration of how to wear every day makeup. National Bobbi Brown makeup artists were on hand to help guests find their natural colours and give application advice.

The goal of the workshops was to teach women how to be their own makeup artist which is Bobbi’s own philosophy. Enjoying champagne and canapes, guests watched and learned from Kai who gave some great tips during his demo. First, he discussed the importance of skincare to create a smooth canvas and healthy looking skin. Then he discussed how to make foundation look flawless saying there are at least 17 types of formula globally but everyone has to find the right one for them.

Next, he applied concealer and corrector to his model explaining that not everyone requires corrector; just those with dark circles. To warm up the skin bronzer was applied all over the face, neck and décolletage. To find your most natural lip and blush colour Kai advises you look at your natural flush tones: “Everyone has a natural and a pop colour,” he said. “Natural is for every day and pop colours are for those with a more outgoing personality or for a special occasion look.”

“Always use a blush and lipstick from the same colour family to complement eachother. The perfect natural lipstick will always look good no matter what you’re wearing,” he added.

When it comes to eye makeup the one thing Bobbi Brown makeup artists says makes the most difference is eyeliner or a darker eyeshadow colour on the upper lash line. “Colour wise eyeliner is the most important eye makeup product as it adds the most definition to the eye. Even just a thin line. It should always be used on top, sometimes underneath but not underneath alone,” said national makeup artist Alphie Sadsad who was one of the artists in attendance. Prior to the eyeliner, Kai demonstrated applying a base colour to the eyelid and a lighter colour as a highlight on the brow bone.

After the makeup workshop guests enjoyed a delicious lunch and complimentary wine and put their orders in for products. The whole event including the lunch cost just $150 per person, but Bobbi Brown products to that value could be redeemed. Those in attendance agreed it was a great way to spend a Monday lunchtime and learnt a lot about their makeup application.

Christine Duke who came with her friend after seeing the promotion online said, “The masterclass has been great fun and good value for money. Now I know what makeup works for me and how to apply it myself.”

Kai said the masterclasses are the perfect way for women to find out about Bobbi and her philosophy and they really help women who are not necessarily comfortable going to a counter and taking their makeup on and off: “You not only have time to ask the questions you really want but time to practice and do it yourself. It is a great learning environment. It’s a fun way to teach women about their makeup while adding exposure to our brand. I enjoy the masterclasses as they’re away from the store and are a more intimate atmosphere – you get to sip champagne and have more of a conversation with people while discovering makeup application.”

Bobbi Brown Australia will be organising another workshop for April 2013. Visit www.bobbibrown.com.au to find out more.
