Ali Magliveras, Essie's Ambassador, talks to Professional Beauty about working for Essie and the brand's new collections.

Q. How did you come to be the Essie Ambassador?
I discovered Essie in 2002 when I was living in New York. That's when I discovered the shade Ballet Slippers and fell in love. When I moved back to Australia I bought Essie in bulk because I wasn't sure if I could get it here. It's all I've used since. I feel like I know the range better than anyone and am often asked which polish is my favorite and what I like to use. I was at a dinner party and doing my usual passionate rant about how Essie polishes are the best, and it turned out the person I was speaking to worked for Essie, and so my career with the brand started from that chance meeting!
Q. What do you enjoy most about your job?
I love getting a new colour – it's like Christmas for me.
Q. How does Essie differ to other professional brands?
With the colour range the brand is bang on trend. With four new colour collections in line with the seasons, with Essie you are always getting the latest trends and hues. Also the brush and the texture of the polish makes it easy to apply evenly and with its chip free finish you know your favourite coloured manicure will last.
Q. How do you go about training your nail technicians?
Practice practice practice. The condition of the nails is also really important, so I always encourage the use of a good base coat and top coat to help maintain a good manicure or pedicure. Essie has a wonderful protein base coat which is fantastic to layer underneath a polish. Not only will it assist in the longevity of the colour, but it will help treat the nail underneath for stronger, flake-free nails.
Q. What were you recently doing at the True Solutions Goddess Day Event?
I was at the True Solutions Goddess Days showcasing some of the Essie ranges from 2012 as well as giving a sneak peek of the soon to launch new summer range. Over the two days, two other manicurists and I performed over 80 manicures to beauty editors celebrity and media clients.
Q. Could you tell me about the summer collection?
Essie Weingarten is constantly taking inspiration from the things around her and this collection is no different. With glamourous jewel tone colours that pop, the Essie Summer collection is a “Summer Escape” in a bottle. With colours like “Supa Bossa Nova” a Risqué pink and my fave 'Meet Me At Sunset' a bold orange – the collection is a fun and fresh and offers some dynamic combinations.
Q. What has inspired the summer range?
Essie Weingarten has created the Summer line focusing on “sexy, daring colour” with a seductive flavour of Brazil. Through the collection you can see the inspirations of cystaline azure waters and neon white quartz beaches.
Q. Are there any of other new products launching soon?
With collections launching in line with the seasons, there is always something new coming up with Essie and the summer collection is certainly one to look out for. Across spas and salons this summer you will also see the new Essie resort collection launch with 4 new metallic hues in the line up.
Q. What would you say to a nail technician thinking of stocking Essie in their salon?
Essie has the most incredible pale colour range that is loved by everybody. With such an elegant line up there is always a hue for everyone that is easy to paint and lasts without chipping. Each amazing seasonal colour collection is right on the money with a gorgeous line up from deep maroons to bright reds, funky blues and even pale creams.
