How to: 3 Halloween makeup looks to try!

With Halloween just around the corner, now is your moment to brush up on some ghoulish makeup techniques. Shev Kelly, Global Makeup Artist for Napoleon Perdis shows us two looks that are both scary and beautiful.

Halloween Look #1: ARACHNE, the “mortal weaver”

Prep: Arachne may have been turned into a spider by goddess Athena but the skin for this look is still perfection. Shev Kelly recommends prepping the skin first with thorough cleansing, then plumping and perfecting using Auto Pilot Napoleon Complex Skin Renewal Serum, “massaged in with fingertips, or buffed over the skin with Complexion Perfection Brush 23s. Next boost under-eye hydration with Supreme Eye Cream, “patted over the under eye area with fingertips,” says Shev. Finally, prep the complexion with Auto Pilot Pre-Foundation Skin Primer “using Complexion Perfection Brush 23s,” says Kelly.

Eyes: The eyes are key in this look so Shev says do the brows and mascara first. “Frame the face by defining brows with Eyebrow Pencil in Chocoholic, then extend and enhance your lashes with Own It! Mascara Jet,” says Shev. “Ditch dark circles and discolouration with Hide It! Concealer, dabbed around the eyes and nose. Fuse into the skin using fingertips.”

Skin: Once that is done, even out skin with Napoleon Perdis Foundation Stick. “Blend using fingertips or High Definition Concealer/Foundation Brush g20,” says Shev. “Next set and highlight the feature focus areas of the face using Light Vs Dark Palette Light and Reflective Contour Brush 20b.”

Eyes (again): Get back to the eyes now by creating a “smokey cream eye base by stippling Eye Pencil Onyx Factor over the mobile lid and lower lash line; blend with Angled Chisel Brush 9a,” says Shev. “Then deepen the eyes further by setting the pencil application with Light Vs Dark Palette Dark using Sculpting Brush 10r. Then using Fine Liner Brush 2h and Duet Makeup Remover remove a small amount of shadow at the outer corners of the eyes to create a fine line accent.”

To create detail on the eyes, “fill the fine line accents with Eye Pencil White On to highlight,” says Shev.

Cheeks: “Warm and sculpt the cheekbones and cheeks with a sweep of Matte Bronze,” says Shev. “For a dark yet detailed lip, mix Pro Lips Lipstick Noir with DéVine Goddess Lipstick Venus and coat the lips.” Then to create the ghoulish lip, use the same mixture to create the ‘spider leg’ design from the lower lip extending towards the chin. Give this dark lip a metallic edge by setting it with Loose Eye Dust Holy Smoke and highlight the Cupid’s bow with The Gold Metallic Eyeliner.”

Halloween look #2: KHIONE, the Greek goddess of snow

Prep: Prime the skin with Auto Pilot Brightening Skin Primer, says Kelly. “Its lilac undertone helps to minimise yellow undertones for a milky-looking complexion.” Next to give skin a pale hue, mix Auto Pilot Pre-Foundation Skin Primer with Foundation Stick and Color Disc White Wedding “and apply all over the face and around the eye area,” says Kelly. “Make sure you also set areas of the face that are prone to shine with Camera Finish Close-Up Complexion Perfecting Powder.”

Brows: Define brows then work through the using a brush; Kelly recommends Precision Angle Brush 5a. Then highlight the brow bone.

Eyes: Kelly recommends sculpting eyes with Mark It! Eye Palette Sculpture by “sweeping the soft minky brown along the lower lash line and through the socket of the eye then cutting the crease with the cooler, deep chocolate.” Next finely line the upper and lower lash lines before lining “the waterline and inner third of the top lash line with China Doll Gel Eyeliner Yang, creating a sharp point at the inner corner of the eye,” says Kelly.

Lashes
“Richly coat the top and lower lashes with China Doll Gel Eyeliner Yang; use a disposable mascara wand to apply,”says Kelly.

Highlight

Highlight the mobile lid, cheekbones and chin with The Gold Metallic Eyeliner, says Kelly. “Tap onto the skin using your fingertip to build a strong opacity of colour. “Add a wintery twinkle to the eyes and skin with Loose Eye Dust Wintery Lily, pressed onto the centre of the mobile lid. Next sweep a line down from the centre of the lower lash line then dust over the tip of the nose and chin.”

Lips

“Create a metallic lip with Pro Lips Lipstick Noir and Loose Eye Dust Disco Glitter,” says Kelly. “Apply a rich coat of Pro Lips Lipstick Noir to the lips then use Diffusing Brush 8b to press Loose Eye Dust Disco Glitter into the lipstick and continue to build to a full opacity of colour.”

Freckles

To create the snow-like freckles, Kelly recommends using China Doll Gel Eyeliner Yang. “Dot the product onto the skin with Fine Line Brush 2h. Then add depth to the freckles by dotting Eyebrow Pencil,” she says.
