A Hidden Pearl in the West

This pampering pocket in NW Australia, set in a tranquil and tropical oasis caters to holiday makers and couples alike, as Kymberly Martin discovered.

Welcome to The Pearle Day Spa set in a tropical garden at The Pearle Resort, Cable Beach, in the heart of Broome. Owner/operator, Paul Coggan, who took over the resort five years ago decided to set up the spa, not so much as a money making venture but as a service for guests.

There is much to do in Broome where tourism is the main industry. “Broome is a destination not a thoroughfare,” Paul says. So after taking in the local attractions that range from pearl luggers tour — Broome was after all established on the pearling industry — to the wonders of the Kimberley region, guests can relax in the day spa.

Guests at the Pearle Day Spa can choose from a range of body massage and facial treatments all using Pevonia Botanica products. And for more pampering, pedicures and manicures are also on the menu. A year ago the spa introduced the warm bamboo massage. This unique treatment has proved to be a perfect massage match with the tropical surroundings and contributes to the feeling of wellbeing, which has gone down well with clients, Paul says. Using smooth, warm bamboo canes and a combination of massage techniques this deeply relaxing massage helps to relieve stress and stimulate blood circulation. Guests can also plump for the ever-popular hot and cool stone therapy.

Predominantly tourists arrive from Perth and Melbourne in the dry season, leaving Brisbane and the east coast to send out visitors in the winter months. “During the summer wet season we rely more on visitors from Karratha, Port Headland and Darwin which is a strong tourist base for us.”

The Pearle caters mainly to families and couples. Paul says the resort maintains an occupancy rate at around 85 per cent. “There was significant growth for about three years but this has since plateaued. “There has been some concern that with the lag in the WA mining boom we would get a decline in business but we are yet to experience that.”

Facilities at The Pearle include 35 fully serviced guest rooms and 35 pavilions — five-star architecturally designed suites each with their own private swimming pool, sun decks and outdoor dining area with BBQ. For those wanting to head to tropical climes this modern resort with outback adventures is worth the hassle of flying.
