This year Salon Melbourne 2016 has created two new competitions – the Fashion Manicure Competition and the Editorial Makeup Competition. Open to everyone across Australia, (meaning, you don’t have to have a Salon Melbourne ticket in your pocket) these exciting competitions feature both novice and professional categories – exciting news for beauty bloggers, beauty students and beauty enthusiasts wanting to get involved alongside the professionals.

The Fashion Nail Competition calls for natural nail manicures (no acrylic) with all nails polished and at least 2 nails sporting free-hand nail art (no embellishments, stick-ons or 3D nail art). A photo of your creation can then be posted on the Salon Melbourne Facebook page with the appropriate hashtag #FashManiNovice or #FashManiPro plus #SalonMelbourne2016.

“The manicure competition is judged on natural, painted nails and free-hand artistry,” says leading manicurist and makeup Mandi Levanah, who has helped Salon Melbourne put the nail competition together. “This reflects what professionals in salons are asked for – in general, clients want natural, painted nails with, perhaps one or two free-hand painted nails.”

The Editorial Makeup Competition requires a professional quality photo of an editorial makeup look. Just like the manicure competition, entrants should post their images to the Salon Melbourne Facebook Page with the appropriate hashtag – #EdMakeupNovice or #EdMakeupPro plus #SalonMelbourne2016.

Up to twenty finalists will be chosen from each competition prior to Salon Melbourne 2016 (you’ll need to provide high res before and after images if you get to this stage so be prepared) by makeup artist and manicure professional, Mandi Levanah (the Fashion Manicure Competition) and makeup artist, Becca Gilmartin (Editorial Makeup Competition), who have both worked with Salon Melbourne to round up experts and create the competitions.

First Place, Runner Up and Encouragement Awards will be announced at the Salon Melbourne Welcome Party, Saturday 5th March. All finalists and winners will be featured on the dedicated Awards page on the Salon Melbourne website as well as on the event’s social media. All finalists will also receive a complimentary ticket to Salon Melbourne and the winners and runners up will be invited to present a demonstration at Beauty Expo 2016 in Sydney or Salon Melbourne 2017.

Both competitions close at 5pm, Monday 8 February 2016.Get creating!
