St.Tropez for Alex Perry and We Are Handsome

Tanning trends at this year’s Mercedes Benz Fashion Week Australia showcased a healthy glow with designers keeping it natural thanks to partnerships with St. Tropez and LDN:SKINS

Red carpet tanning trends provided inspiration for runway tans that focused on much more than swimwear as models sported an organic look that didn’t add to or alter their natural colour. The main purpose of the tan then this year was finish, with products used to even out imperfections, add contour and deliver radiance. The tan was applied with the assumption of natural lighting, urging the brands to forgo obvious or extreme spray tans that drew attention away from the very essence of the collection.

Alex Perry’s show used tanning by St.Tropez to present his trademark luxury style, with a contouring glow that looked anything but cheap. The effect was one of natural elegance, having audiences hardly believe a wash-off lotion created it. Where bronzer was used to contour the cheekbones, the tan illuminated the arms, legs and collarbones in gold to conjure a similar definition. The colours utilised were kept to light or medium, with the girls portraying an ethereal femininity where dark tans would have looked out of place.

We Are Handsome (St. Tropez), however, pushed its girls to go dark, highlighting the shins, arms, collarbones and shoulder blades with a skin illuminator on top of medium to dark shades of wash off tan lotion. The look, combined with a heavy dose of runway swimwear, created a tropical paradise look all too welcome in the dreary Sydney weather. Perfect this winter for any client who wants to look as if they’ve just come back from the Bahamas.

LDN:SKINS for Suboo and Hayley Elsaeser

Suboo‘s seventies poolside vibe was delivered a dose of glamour thanks to LDN:SKINS bronzed Retro Tan which complimented tropical prints and sheer textures in the perfect balance of sexy sophistication. Bronzed and with a healthy glow, this was a Palm Springs postcard and a look client’s will love.

From seventies style to fifties flair, nostaglia and the best of new season brights came to the forefront at Hayley Elsaeser where Timeless Tan by LDN:SKINS was on show. Proving a golden glow never goes out of style it complimented heightened hair and makeup looks of vintage excess.

The main take away from MBFWA’s Australia’s tanning trend was the natural golden glow is here to stay – all year round. Highlight your client’s best assets to create that perfect contour and remember to keep it modern, sun-kissed and chic.
