$2000 small business grants launched for Perth area salons and spas

Owners of Perth area salons and spas will be eligible for the one-off Small Business Lockdown Assistance Grant Programme later this month, according to the WA Government website. It has been created to help offset the losses businesses might have incurred over the ANZAC Day-weekend lockdown from things such as cancelled bookings and other lost revenue. Hair dressing and beauty services are one of the business categories under which businesses are eligible for the grants. Applications open later this month, and you can register your expression of interest here until that happens.

To apply, according to the programme details, businesses must have “an Australia-wide payroll of less than $4 million and registered for GST purposes,” according to the government’s recent release. “Businesses must be able to demonstrate losses incurred for… cancellations or other unforeseen costs as a result of the lockdown.” There is a pot of $31.8 million available, to be distributed in grants of up to $2,000 to individual businesses.

Western Australian Premier Mark McGowan has said “This is a significant program with the capacity to support an estimated 15,000 small businesses in Perth and Peel – including Rottnest Island – to recoup some direct costs they have incurred already.

I want to thank and acknowledge the small business sector for their continued understanding as we work to keep the community safe and maintain Western Australia’s world-leading economic response to COVID-19.”

What can you do now, before the application process opens up? Small Business Minister Reece Whitby’s adds “I encourage eligible businesses to begin preparing evidence of any losses in anticipation of applications opening later this month.”
