With this weekend’s COVID-19 infection rates back down, Victorian premier Andrew Daniels announced on Sunday that lockdown restrictions would be easing, making way for salons to re-open on November 1.
While the “third step” off easing restrictions will give the green light for salons to re-open, Mr Andrews said that if cases continue to remain low, the date could potentially be brought forward.
“If we continue to track well on the most important indicators – case averages, mystery cases, test numbers and the number of days people wait before they get tested – we may be in a position to move sooner,” Mr Andrews said. “My commitment to Melburnians: we’ll review this data each and every day this week and when we get to next weekend, if we can move any earlier and do it safely, we will.”
When the much-awaited third step kicks in, Victoria will move from “stay home” to “stay safe”. For beauty salons, Mr Andrews said: “Beauty services will be able to offer treatments to clients, as long as a face mask can be worn.”
To ensure that salons are ready for business on November 1 (assuming that is the go-ahead date), they will be permitted to have staff on site from October 28, giving them time to prepare to open their doors to the public.
