Spring Clean Your Skin (with ethics and evidence)

Best known for her TV appearances on Sunrise, The Morning Show and Weekend Sunrise, Dr Ginni Mansberg explains how to spring clean your skin – and keep it looking good all year round.

With the warmer weather approaching, and the dryer months behind us, it could be time for a spring clean – for your skin! Winter is one of the harshest seasons on our skin for both face and body, so there’s no better time to assess the damage and get back on track than spring. The time is now ‒ to hydrate and address any blemishes, large pores or fine lines before summer’s onslaught!

The first and one of the most important steps in addressing rough, dry winter skin is a really good cleanser and exfoliant. ESK’s Hydroxy Cleanser is a soap-free non-drying solution which contains Alpha and Beta Hydroxy acids to gently cleanse and exfoliate the skin (if left on for approximately 10 minutes prior to rinsing off). It’s gentle enough for daily use, yet effective enough to give a softer, smoother complexion.

Cleansing and exfoliating can not only shed any excess dead cell accumulation caused by indoor heating and the harsh, dry elements of winter but also helps prime dry skin to absorb the nutrients it needs to get the best from a cosmeceutical regime and to look its best for the social months ahead.

While winter brings dryness, summer brings humidity and harsh UVB rays.

I therefore recommend the use of a vitamin C serum. ESK’s Reverse C Serum and C Serum Lite (for oiler skin or a more humid environment) contain Vitamin C (in its evidence based form – 10 percent L-Ascorbic acid.).

L-Ascorbic acid in the chemically correct format helps to hydrate and repair the visible signs of ageing and protect the skin against further damage.

After cleansing with an exfoliant cleanser and pumping the skin with vital nutrients, it’s important to lock in all the goodness with a moisturiser. ESK’s SPF 15, Zinc Shade, contains the necessary ingredients to minimise the damage caused by the sun’s UVA and UVB rays which are starting to increase at this time of year.

I recommend incorporating a sunscreen into your regime all year-round as the final step of your ESK morning regime. You can even use it as a primer before make-up.

Night time is a time for the skin to refresh and renew. ESK’s Smooth Serum (with Glycolic and Lactic acid) is a great gentle daily exfoliator. It not only sheds the old and promotes new skin cell growth, but also further enhances the absorption and effectiveness of ESK’s Ultimate A (and A+) night cream.

Ultimate A (contains the most effective and least irritating form of Vitamin A (Retinal not Retinol) according to the evidence published in peer review medical and scientific journals as well as Vitamin B3 (niacinamide).

Ultimate A promotes collagen growth, reduces wrinkles, fine lines and hyperpigmentation and improves skin barrier function. And as humidity increases, so can break outs. Smooth Serum and Ultimate A + are perfect for addressing embarrassing pimples.

ESK’s range of evidenced-based products is formulated using ingredients with scientific backing. The range is designed and manufactured in Australia with no perfumes, no harmful preservatives and is cruelty free.

Not just scientifically valid and ethical, ESK is also highly effective and simple to use.
