Shiseido celebrates 140 years

To celebrate Shiseido’s 140th anniversary, a party was held at the Harbourside room of the MCA in Sydney. Fittingly decorated with the Shiseido camellia and warm red lights, the Harbourside room was transformed into a Shiseido haven.

At the start of the evening, beauty editors enjoyed champagne, cocktails and canapés while reading special Shiseido displays with vintage packaging and archival material brought over from Japan to tell the story of Shiseido.

Mr Nobuyuki Takai, managing director of Shiseido Australia, started the evenings’ announcements and was pleased to say that Shiseido has experienced growth around the world with the Bio Performance range being the brand’s top seller.

Also at the party were staff from the Japanese head office including Mr Maeda, Shiseido’s global chairman, who explained some of the brand’s history beginning at its foundation in 1872, when it opened Japan’s first Western-style pharmacy in the Ginza district of Tokyo.

Shiseido has developed into a company that currently operates in 87 countries and regions worldwide, and is undertaking various initiatives in order to become a “global player representing Asia with its origins in Japan.” Shiseido has been available in Australia 30 years and in New Zealand for 40 years.

Mr Maeda went on to announce the brand’s latest launch – Bio Performance New Advanced Super Restoring Cream, which combines science, innovation and prestige for the ultimate in anti-ageing skincare.

Towards the end of the evening a specially commissioned, elegant solo dance performance took centre stage and Mr Maeda was presented with a beautifully iced, giant birthday cake to celebrate with all in attendance.
