On January 6, 2011 Dermalogica launched the official world-wide campaign of FITE with an incredibly powerful video. The video was introduced by inspiring woman Isobel Coleman (Senior Fellow and Director for the Women and Foreign Policy at the Council for Foreign Relations in the US), before Dermalogica owner and founder Jane Wurwand presented the FITE launch video, which you can watch here.
FITE (Financial Independence Through Entrepreneurship) aims to empower women in business and turn gender inequality around. In only 14 days of FITE launching, 400 women have had their businesses funded to help put them on the road to financial security.
The sales of five well-loved Dermalogica skin care products, including international best-seller Daily Microfoliant, will contribute to funding women in developing countries start and grow a business.
Here are some hard-hitting facts about women and the workplace:
• Women’s hands perform 66 percent of the world’s work
• They produce 50 percent of the world’s food
• They invest 90 percent of their income in their family and their community
• They bear 70 percent of the world’s poverty
• They earn only 10 percent of the world’s income
• They own a tiny one percent of the world’s land
US actresses Geena Davis and Julia Ormond have come on board with FITE, helping to raise money for the initiative. Both are passionate about empowering women and have set up individual lending teams to utilise their status for a great cause.
Closer to home, FITE is a sponsor of the 2011 Tropfest film contest, supporter of the Women in Film award and will also be highlighted on the big screens shown at the events across the country. Tropfest is the world’s largest small film festival with over 300,000 people in attendance nationally. The event is also televised on the Movie Extra channel.
