On Sunday, April 17 2011, the general public and a number of well-known faces, including Kyly Boldy, Sami Lukis, Tracey Spicer and Sarah Wilson joined Aveda in their annual Walk for Water event.
Walk for Water Sydney supporters
The 6km walks in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane and Perth, in conjunction with Aveda’s Earth Month, raised awareness for the daily struggle of people around the world without access to clean water. In 2011, Aveda extended its fundraising initiatives in Australia to include support for the Premier’s Disaster Relief Appeal.
While in previous years, funding had been directed towards Global Greengrants, in 2011 Aveda will distribute funds locally to the appeal in an effort to provide much-needed support to Queenslanders.

Aveda prides itself on being a brand that supports communities in need and together with the companies Australian affiliate had donated earlier in the year $9666 raised from various internal fundraising activities. In addition to this the greater corporation has also donated $50,000 to the Queensland Flood Appeal for those affected by the recent natural disasters in Queensland.
The sun came out just in time in Sydney on Sunday as walkers finished with an Aveda ‘Stress-Relieving Scalp and Shoulder Ritual’ with Aveda Blue Oil Balancing Concentrate to complete their efforts.

Now in its 12th year, Aveda created Earth Month for the month of April to raise awareness and funds for critically important environmental issues around the world, and has since raised more than US$18 million for organisations that directly affect environmental change, and US$12 million for water-related causes alone over the past four years.
One in seven people around the world do not have access to clean water which they need to live. The global Walk for Water initiative has allowed the Aveda network to spread the word about the need to protect clean water – a basic human right that nearly 900 million people globally are left fighting for daily.
Stress-Relieving Scalp and Shoulder Ritual
Aveda will continue to sell its limited-edition 2011 Light the Way soy wax candle featuring a stress-relieving aroma with certified organic French lavender, exclusively in salons until the end of April. 100 percent of the purchase price ($24.95) of the candle will go directly to WaterAid to helping disadvantaged communities affected by lack of access to clean water.
