Last week, we explored the specific ageing factors that Nimue as a brand focuses on when developing a platinum anti-ageing range which is the Nimue Age Intelligence Range.
This week, we will look at the ingredient technology of the range based on the OMICS research studies as well as the four products within the range specifically targeted to treat the cause and reduce the symptoms of an ageing skin.
The term OMICS defined
OMICS refers to a field of study in biology ending in –omics, such as genomics, transcriptonomics, proteomics or metabolomics. It is also a study of the various changes within the skin and to determine what these changes are and their causes.
The study of skin biology measures the influences and changes to the skin by focusing mainly on the ageing process.
In this manner, much information relating to biology has been gathered and helps the markers that indicate certain types of ageing and which actives to develop that will minimise the effects thereof.
The studies are aimed at:-

Nimue looked at the research behind the OMICS science for ageing studies which researches the genetic changes in the skin that is influenced by an individual’s chronological clock (age), lifestyle, life story and environment.

Active ingredients based on the OMICS Principle
From a formulating perspective, the Nimue Research and Development Team were more “Age Intelligent” when it came to selecting active molecules derived from phytoceuticals to support the skin when the ageing signals are triggered. The three ingredients chosen for the Nimue Age Intelligent Range and based on the OMICS principle are Chicory Root Extract, Hydrolised Myrtle Leaf Extract and Calendula Flower Extract.
Chicory Root Extract provides the skin with repair and moisturisation benefits. With the study on the DNA of the skin cells, we see that DNA is indeed influenced by effects of our lifestyle and our life story, as well as the environment. Vitamin D production, which lowers as we age and due to limited sun exposure, affects the cell DNA. The chicory root extract acts like Vitamin D, restoring the function of Vitamin D receptors and results in a younger perceived age and repair of the skin barrier due to the improvements of epidermal cell differentiation, keratinisation and desquamation.
Hydrolised Myrtle Leaf Extract provides the skin with cellular longevity and restructuring. The study was on the changes in the genes that are caused by glycation, resulting in wrinkles, skin sagging and reduced cell to cell communication. Hydrolised myrtle leaf extract inhibits the glycation of collagen, increases cell to cell communication and preserves the skin youthfulness.
Calendula Flower Extract provides the skin with anti-wrinkle benefits based on the study of the changes that the skin undergoes due to various environmental factors. These factors causes a loss of elasticity and skin tone. The calendula flower extract combats against the harmful effects of the environment on the ageing process. The results are an increase in skin elasticity, a smoother skin and an increase in collagen synthesis.
