Snap lockdown in Perth ending but some restrictions remain until Friday

[Update] Perth metropolitan area, the Peel region and Rottnest Island will be in post-lockdown transition until 12:01, Friday 1 May.

What does that mean for your beauty business?

According to the WA government site:

·      Continue wearing a mask in public, while at work and on public transport unless exemptions apply e.g. vigorous outdoor exercise.

·    20-patron capacity limit and 4sqm rule for beauty salons, hairdressers and barbers.

You can see the full list of post-lockdown transition measures in place here.

[Original post] Mask wearing is mandatory in public from 6pm Friday, 23 April, as Perth metropolitan area, the Peel region and Rottnest Island are placed under a snap three-day lockdown starting at 12:01am on Saturday, 24 April through 12:01am on Tuesday, 27 April 2021.

Beauty and personal care services including hairdressers, barbers, nail salons, tattoo parlours, spa and massage parlours are included in the list of locations that must remain shut as a non-essential service (not mentioned as one of the four reasons to leave your home) until 12:01am on Tuesday 27 April, confirmed on the WA government site here.

This is due to a Melbourne man contracting Covid-19 during local hotel quarantine. He spent several days in the local community and subsequently travelled interstate, returning to Melbourne by plane. Anyone who has travelled outside of the Perth metropolitan area and Peel region since Saturday 17 April must wear face masks in public from 6pm tonight.

“There will be four reasons to leave your house,” McGowan said.

“These are: Work because you can’t work from home or remotely, shopping for essentials like groceries, medicine and necessary supplies, medical or healthcare needs, including compassionate requirements and looking after the vulnerable, and exercise with a maximum of four people, limited to one hour per day and masks must be worn unless it is rigorous exercise.”

The following restrictions apply for the lockdown period from 12.01am Saturday, April 24 until 12.01am Tuesday, April 27, with potential for an extension if local cases emerge:

  • People can enter the Perth and Peel areas only to access or deliver essential health and emergency services and other essential requirements;
  • Restaurants, cafés, pubs and bars to provide takeaway service only;
  • Community sport is not permitted, however professional sporting events, with only players and officials, will be permitted;
  • Events and functions are not permitted, with the exception of weddings and funerals which have a limit of 100 patrons, not including staff, and masks must be worn;
  • No visitors will be allowed in homes, unless caring for a vulnerable person or an emergency;
  • No visitors to hospitals or residential aged care and/or disability facilities, except for exceptional circumstances such as compassionate reasons and advocacy;
  • Travel remains prohibited to some remote Aboriginal communities.

The following facilities are closed:

  • Schools, universities, TAFEs and education facilities (other than residential schools)
  • Gyms, pools and indoor sporting venues – no community sport is permitted
  • Playgrounds, skate parks and outdoor recreational facilities
  • Cinemas, entertainment venues, and casinos
  • Beauty therapy services, parlour or salon including hairdressers, barber shops, nail salons, tattoo parlours, spa or massage parlours
  • Large religious gatherings and places of worship
  • Libraries, museums, galleries, cultural institutions and other public buildings.

Clinics have announced closures online, such as Blanc, a local cosmetic clinic, which shared in an Instagram post stating they’d be rescheduling all appointments for Saturday 24 April.

Anyone who has been to one of the potential exposure locations will need to get tested and isolate until they return a negative test result. If people are deemed a close contact by public health officials, they will be tested and required to self-quarantine for 14 days. People are encouraged to get tested if they have symptoms and if people have been to an exposure site, they must go and get tested.

More information will be available here as the situation develops.
