A reformer class at Wellness Playground

Fitness Playground has launched a new “Wellness Playground” in a move that positions fitness services at the frontline of preventative healthcare. The award-winning Australian gym company has reinvented their Marrickville facility as their first “Wellness Playground.”

“Wellness” is one of the fastest-growing verticals in the lifestyle industry, worth 1.5 trillion dollars globally – with the personal care, beauty and anti-aging market taking the largest share of the sector (McKinsey, 2021)

Fitness Playground co-founder and CEO Justin Ashley says the concept for the Wellness Playground came about during the first lockdown, as physical and mental health became a preoccupation for many.

He says: “We repositioned our thinking, that gyms should really be at the front of preventative healthcare – we believe that’s where the industry has the potential to go. We know the connection between physical and mental health, but there is a lack of gym facilities that cater for mental wellness as well as physical fitness.”

With this in mind, the space that includes a state of the art reformer pilates studio, a tranquil yoga Shalla, dynamic barre & dance studios along with infrared saunas, a blow-dry bar, also includes a luxurious creche – to ensure parents who have been housebound can enjoy the offerings.

At the launch event, journalists and influencers trialled a range of services including reformer pilates, dynamic barre and a restorative yin yoga class – before enjoying a light breakfast in the hangout space.

Ashley says that behind the arched doorways and terrazzo finishes is a sincere desire to get Sydney siders back into health and fitness. He says: “Ultimately if we can create spaces with a whole menu of different things to try, and inspire people not to turn off their alarm and go back to bed, there’s a higher chance that people will find something they love at the gym and get results.”
