Rachel Medlock undergoes a unique body reset experience with Blanc Spa: the Ultracalibre. Here’s what she made of it.
When I first read the invitation to experience Blanc Spa’s ‘nervous system recalibration’, Ultracalibre, I honestly thought, “Challenge accepted to the therapist tasked with coaxing calm into the shoulders of a grieving toddler-wrangling mum.”
Still, I was hopeful and, as any Melbourne local will tell you, the promise of designated parking in the southeast is enough to lower your cortisol before you even step inside.
Inside Blanc’s light-filled sanctuary, I was welcomed by Daisy and invited to complete a consultation form in the front lounge. While I tapped away, she served me a chilled can of Hydrogen Water H2O – the first phase of the new treatment. Innovative hydration, yes, but also deeply chic.
Moments later, Olivia, my therapist, walked me through the 90-minute experience. The treatment room was warm and candlelit; the kind of grounded quiet that tells your nervous system it’s safe to exhale.
Cocooned in the treatment bed, Olivia placed earphones on me. A Theta Wave Soundscape began to play at 432hz, said to release emotional blockages and soften stress responses, as the bed beneath me began to hum. The low-frequency vibrations stimulated the vagus nerve, and at one point, when they paused, I forgot my body wasn’t meant to be vibrating. That’s how quickly it became part of me.
A magnesium-infused back and shoulder massage followed, layered with Lutronic near-infrared LED light and magnesium exfoliation. A sustained-release magnesium patch was then placed on my lower back to extend the benefits long after I left. Gabrielle Ingle, Founder and Director of Blanc Spa, tells me the magnesium components are sourced from a local formulator who creates a pure blend of salts and oils exclusively for the spa – a detail that reinforces just how considered this treatment really is.
Next came the facial: double cleanse, exfoliation, carefully selected Elementals mask and UltraFusion infusion. All the while, sound and vibration anchored me in a kind of stillness I rarely feel.
It was a masterclass in how high-tech and high-touch can work in perfect harmony. Olivia didn’t tick boxes; she followed the cues of a body surrendering.
Lying there, I realised Ultracalibre was born from the very thing it’s designed to soothe: the overstimulation of modern life. A quiet irony of technology healing what it has helped to fray.
After one final neck and shoulder massage (bliss), Olivia led me to the post-treatment lounge and handed me a glass of Sodii magnesium. As I sipped, I thought: we spend so much time pushing through stress and overwhelm. What if we gave just as much space to restoration?
Let that be the new benchmark.
Blanc Spa charges $550 for their UltraCalibre treatment; and $750 for UltraCalibre+ (including UltraFusion).
