A new player has entered the clinical education space, aiming to reset Australia’s standard for laser dermatology training.
DermEd, founded by husband-and-wife team Dr Shobhan and Dr Patricia Manoharan, responds to growing demand for practitioner-first education that is clinically rigorous and outcomes-focused.
“Laser technology is evolving rapidly, but practitioner training has not kept up,” says Dr Shobhan. “Too many professionals are left with limited, outdated, or superficial training.”

DermEd’s curriculum is deliberately intensive. Each course includes online theory followed by in-clinic practical training at their Brisbane institute using real patients, advanced technologies, and protocols grounded in published research.
A key differentiator is DermEd’s post-training mentorship. Graduates receive ongoing support for 12 months, enabling them to consult with educators on clinical cases.
“This is the kind of education I wish had existed when I started,” says Dr Shobhan. “That ongoing relationship transforms the course from a learning moment into lasting clinical expertise.”
Their flagship course, Cosmetic Laser Mastery, targets experienced practitioners wanting to broaden their clinical scope and improve patient outcomes. Additional programs cover pigmentation in skin of colour, vascular conditions, acne, scarring, laser resurfacing, and phototherapy.

Open to dermatologists, GPs, nurses, dermal therapists, and cosmetic physicians, DermEd is structured to fit within the realities of busy clinic schedules.
“As a practising dermatologist, I understand how hard it is to step away from your clinic. That’s why our courses are designed for maximum impact in minimum time,” Dr Shobhan shares. “Practitioners leave with knowledge they can apply immediately.”
Dr Shobhan hopes DermEd will contribute to broader shifts in how education and qualifications are approached.
“We want DermEd to become a benchmark for safety, capability, and clinical credibility.”
