Bridal/Fashion makeup course at Makeup-Mode Masterclass

Make-up Mode’s Bridal/Fashion evening course kicked off this week. It is an 8 week course designed to give those wanting to move into the industry an opportunity to learn without having to take time off work. But there is also the option to do the course over six full days.

Susan Markovic who runs the course has worked in the industry for 27 years and has taught at numerous makeup schools including The Art & Technology of Makeup (3arts) as course coordinator for five years and guest lectured at ACMUSE and Australasian College. Susan feels she has combined the most important elements from the Cert IV in Makeup and Diploma courses for her Bridal/Fashion and Advanced Fashion courses combined.

Susan has taught many great makeup artists over the years including Rachel Montgomery, Australian Makeup Artist of the year 2011 and 2012. "Susan gives everything to help nurture your talent and is truly proud of your success,” says Rachel. “She has always supported me in my career and pushed me when I’ve needed it. I could not have asked for a more dedicated teacher and mentor. I definitely see Susan as the most influential person in my career and credit her with giving me the skills and drive to be a successful artist. I continue to learn from her even now and she is still there to give me advice when I need it".

During lesson one Susan went through makeup health and safety and best practice with the students, including creating a work station and brush cleaning. Susan discussed the different types of brushes and what each is used for. Next, Susan taught colour theory using a colour wheel; eye colours, skin tone, black and white versus colour photography, client personality and fashion are all areas which influence which colours will look best. Lastly, applying lip colour was taught. Susan went through the different lips shapes and problems encountered and revealed her top tips and techniques for creating the perfect pout.

In the upcoming weeks the Bridal/Fashion course will cover the following topics: Foundations, undertones, contouring, eyebrows, lashes and mascara, eye shapes, bridal makeup, Asian eyes and features, smokey eyes, tattoo coverage and mature makeup. Students recieve a certificate on completetion of the course.

After the Bridal/Fashion course students may choose to do Make-up Mode’s Advanced Fashion course aimed specifically at those wanting to work in fashion and editorial makeup. There is also an Airbrushing and Hairstyling course great skills for both bridal and fashion makeup artists to have.

Susan only takes on six students per course which allows her to give plenty of time and tuition to each one. The courses take place at Susan’s makeup studio in Earlwood. Make-up Mode is ideal for those wanting a more personal training experience.
