Until now, hair and beauty professionals have had to travel to Japan to learn the renowned Zudo Method, but atama Academy’s latest announcement brings this sought-after training down under.
Developed by Japanese cosmetologist Tatsuya Yamasaki, Zudo fuses precise scalp massage with muscle engagement. Rooted in Japanese wellness traditions, Zudo honours the interconnectivity of the facial structure and scalp by stimulating dormant muscles, resulting in a naturally lifted facial appearance while addressing stress, posture, and overall wellness.
The training will be delivered through two intensive courses, Introduction to Zudo and Mastering Zudo, at atama Academy’s James Street location in Brisbane. Led by Australia’s only certified Zudo practitioner, atama Academy founder Gabriel Skalic, the Introduction to Zudo course spans two days and focuses on the intricate muscle engagement techniques that form the method’s foundation.
Graduates will then have the rare opportunity to refine their skills in Mastering Zudo, taught by Yamasaki, who will fly in from Japan this April to guide students through advanced applications.
Gabriel, a hairdresser for over 38 years, first discovered the Zudo Method during her travels in Japan. “I’ve always been passionate about scalp health, and I was fascinated by how deeply this method works—not just on the surface but within the muscles that shape the face. It’s an approach to beauty and wellbeing that makes sense long-term,” she explains.
Described by Gabriel as a “once-in-a-lifetime opportunity,” Yamasaki will also host a one-day Zudo Dry Head Spa course in Sydney, focusing on deep waterless massage. “It’s an excellent option for those who want to refine their scalp massage techniques or introduce a wellness-driven service to their clients,” she adds. Upon completing the masterclasses, participants will receive Complete Head Spa Zudo Mastery by Tatsuya Yamasaki.
