2013 Telstra Business Women’s Awards

The head of a chain of skin health clinics is encouraging women working in the health and cosmetic sectors to celebrate their achievements by entering the 2013 Telstra Business Women’s Awards.

Suzie Hoitink, CEO of Clear Complexions Clinics, won the business owner category at the 2012 ACT awards.

With a background in nursing in public hospitals and private practice, she founded the business in Canberra in 2005 to provide a medical approach to addressing skin conditions and care. The business has three clinics in the ACT and has just opened its first in Sydney.

“The high profile nature of these Awards engages people’s attention immediately which has helped me both personally and professionally,” Ms Hoitink said. “I think the biggest benefit however is the networking opportunities provided by these Awards; the quality of people you form relationships with is incredible.”

“Entering the Awards also give you courage which is very revealing. The application process helps identify your weaknesses and strengths, which gives you an opportunity to reflect and move forward.”

Ms Hoitink said the awards are also an opportunity to reflect on issues impacting on women in the workplace. “It is an exciting time to be a women in business. There are always challenges. One of the biggest challenges I believe is to balance being a full time working woman and a good mum.”

Kate McKenzie, Group Managing Director Telstra Innovation, Products and Marketing and Telstra Business Women’s Awards Ambassador, said the awards offer women an exceptional opportunity for public recognition of their achievements and, as a result, raise their profile and increase their business opportunities.

“They provide an opportunity for outstanding Australian business women to meet and share ideas with their peers, connect with women outside their sector and build new networks,” Ms McKenzie said.

“They also highlight the importance of women harnessing and sharing knowledge through mentoring. Last years’ survey of awards alumni found three-quarters were mentoring other women.”

Nominations for the awards can be made at www.telstrabusinesswomensawards.com. Entries open 29 April and can be submitted until Tuesday 25 June.
