Award-winning dermal therapist, James Vivian is passionate about providing the right treatment options to his clients. As head of his namesake clinic, he caught up with Professional Beauty to relay why DermaQuest (distributed by Advanced Skin Technology) is one of his hero skincare brands of choice.
James, what do you look for when onboarding a new skincare brand?
“At James Vivian, we have always taken a multi-brand approach believing that one brand cannot be everything to everyone. By stocking certain products from multiple brands it allows us to curate personalised homecare programs for our clients that can evolve as our clients’ skins alter throughout the treatment process.
It also allows us to constantly review our homecare offering and make changes as we discover new brands and technologies or as our clients’ needs and wants change. It is therefore important that any new brands or products that we bring into our homecare offering plays well with our cherry picking model and that the distributor is supportive of us not taking on a full range of products. The same goes for onboarding professional products into our backbar offering.”

Why did you choose to stock DermaQuest, and how does it fit into your clinic offering?
“We have been stocking DermaQuest retail and professional at James Vivian for many years, even before Advanced Skin Technology took over their distribution. DermaQuest has since gone through several changes that have refined its suitability for the Australian market from a formulation and regulatory perspective.
DermaQuest has always impressed from both a therapist and client perspective with their sophisticated formulations, fail-proof packaging, and their concern-specific non-invasive professional treatments. Being online-protected, it also provides our business with the confidence to recommend vigorously without being concerned of losing a sale to another business.”

Describe the impact DermaQuest has had on your clients’ results.
“DermaQuest works across many of the most common skin concerns that we see at James Vivian. Their Essentials Collection has everything that a skin needs to overcome an impaired barrier and other skin sensitivities. Their Pure Peptide Peptide Collection harnesses the powers of potent peptides and stem cells to often visibly improve firmness and texture. And their MelaQuest collection has a great offering of skin brightening products from cleansers to moisturisers.

Talk us through your favourite DermaQuest treatments and products, and why they stand out to you.
“A favourite retail product is their Advanced Peptide Line Corrector. We sell this as a 2-in-1 age management serum and eye cream, as it can taken right up to the eye area so that the rich peptide complex can work where we need it to most. It also leaves a beautiful dewy finish on the skin to improve skin luminosity and hydration.
A favourite professional treatment is their Firming Enzyme system. Our clients adore this treatment pre-event for a temporary but often noticeable firming treatment with no downtime. We can add this to an LED, Laser Genesis, and layer with other peels to enhance and elongate its effects.”
How do you see that the brand aligns with your clinics’ commitment to innovation and professional-grade skincare?
“The success of James Vivian – much like other clinics – is never due to one brand, treatment or person. With no two clients being the same, as well as how a client’s skin can change between visits, it’s essential for us to continue to offer an inclusive range of skincare and professional treatments that evolve and improve with every opportunity.

Any standout client transformations using DermaQuest you can share with us?
“At James Vivian, we’re not afraid of an extraction (or 500!), and with an increasing number of teens and tweens entering the skincare conversation, we continue to see more and more younger clients coming in to have necessary extractions performed.
Whilst not specific to one client per se, the Primary Pumpkin peel is an essential component of our extraction facials for teens to reduce post-extraction downtime, reduce inflammation, as well as reoccurring congestion which not only helps their skin but also their confidence.”
