Repairing Sun-Damaged Skin

Dermaviduals national trainer Claudia Martius shares her top tips on repairing sun-damaged skin.

2012Dermaividuals145During the warmer months, many of us can’t help but spend time in the sun as the outdoors can be so inviting. However, as Claudia Martius, Dermaviduals national trainer advises, it is also the time that we are most likely to compromise our skin health.

Here she shares her top tips for preventing and repairing skin discoloration and pigmentation that burden many of us following a summer of fun in the sun.

Cover Up
Always cover up when outdoors. Try not to expose too much skin! Wear a broadbrimmed hat and sunglasses. The less direct sun exposure, the better for your skin.

Slip Slop Slap
It might seem like an obvious one but always ensure you’re wearing sunscreen and lots of it! The biggest mistake people make is not applying enough product to their skin and as a result the effectiveness of the sunscreen is dramatically reduced. Apply your sunscreen early, up to 30 – 40 minutes before heading outdoors and
continue to reapply throughout the day to ensure you’re well protected. Use a nonsticky, easy to apply and hydrating product.

White It Out
Prevent pigmentation by a daily application of products that inhibit tyrosinase, an enzyme that controls the production of melanin.

Suppress with a Serum
Make sure your daily home care routine includes scientifically proven and repairing ingredients that aim to stimulate collagen production, which will even out skin tone
and help reverse sun damage. Products that contain vitamin A and polyphenols, natural antioxidants are a perfect combination.
• Vitamin A is great for regenerating the skin and repairing damage while
keeping the cells healthy.
• Vitamin B complex helps erase pigmentation and aids in balancing skin tone.
• Green Tea is a free radical scavanger, an anti- inflammatory, anti-ageing and
protective formula.
• Boswellia prevents wrinkles, redness and fine lines from forming.

Nutrients in the Night
Let products work while you sleep – Use the evening hours to combat the signs of ageing and help undo any daytime damage. At night, the skin is in repair mode so
support its natural repair mechanism by applying vitamin-rich products filled with a range of nutrients before you hit the pillow.
