Pinterest’s Top 10 beauty predictions

Pinterest has unveiled its Top 10 beauty predictions for the year ahead in its fifth annual Pinterest 100 list.

The social media platform says its users “search-and-save” patterns offer unique insight into emerging consumer trends.

“Over 250 million people come to Pinterest each month from around the world to plan their lives… when a million or so of those people start searching for the same thing, well that’s how we know it’s a trend.”

And so, Pinterest’s Top 10 beauty predictions for 2019 (based on year-on-years increases in searches from January-September 2017 to January-September 2018) are:

Hooray for greyPeople are growing out their natural grey hair and letting that silver shine through. (Searches for going grey increased by 79 percent)

Baby fringes are highbrowThe next big thing in hair styles? Baby fringes. In 2019, the just-above-the-brow crop is making the cut. (Searches for short fringes increased by 51 percent)

Dip inWave goodbye to chipped nails! Powder dipping lasts longer than traditional gels, and is way easier to remove. (Searches for powder-dip nails increased by 442 percent)

Ooh-la-lashesPeople are giving their lashes a lift with natural solutions – think castor oil, grapeseed oil and aloe vera. (Searches for natural lash lifts increased by 52 percent)

Just like magicIt may sound like sorcery, but old-school witch hazel is gaining popularity as a skincare solution. (Searches forwitch hazel increased by 305 percent)

Go glossyFrom lips to lids, gloss is helping people make their best features shine. (Searches for glossy make-up increased by 89 percent)

The standout pout: Smart mouths everywhere are pairing barely-there make-up with a bold red kisser for added attention. (Searches for standout lip colour increased by 467 percent)

Almond joy: Here’s a nutty new manicure trend: almond nails, named after the rounded shape of the nut. (Searches for almond nails increased by 97 percent)

The next exfoliantPeople are lathering up with gentle liquid exfoliators for brighter, smoother skin. (Searches for liquid exfoliator increased by 58 percent)

Lilac locks: Prepare to see lots of lilac in 2019 – this pretty pastel hair colour trend is growing fast. (Searches for lilac hair increased by 1077 percent)
