Orange salon celebrates triple win

The Macquarie Medi Spa is celebrating three award wins on one night– one in regional Australia and the other in Russia.

Medi Spa director Karla McDiarmid was named Business Leader of the year (35+ years) at the Orange Business Awards in Orange (NSW) on Saturday night but was unable to collect the award herself as she was collecting two other awards in Saint Petersburg.

The Medi Spa won the Best Luxury Beauty Spa in Australia and Oceania award while Karla was named Australian Spa Manager of the Year in Australia award at the 2019 World Luxury Spa Awards.

Speaking after her trifecta, Karla said it was “incredible to win three awards in one night on total opposite sides of the world”.

“I am on top of the world right now,” she said.

“The Orange award in particular has blown me away as to be recognised in the skin care industry in a town that has quite a large ‘beauty presence’ is just phenomenal.

“My journey in trying to open in Orange three years ago was very tough with many challenges (it was like someone at council really didn’t want us to open) but we did it with huge success.”

Macquarie Medi Spa employs 21 skin and beauty therapists across two locations – Bathurst and Orange – and has five Sydney-based specialists in “injectables, laser and cosmetic tattooing” visit twice a week.

Karla believes that the business’s success largely comes from “our dedication to customer service and our fabulous staff training”.

“We love what we do and our aim is for our customers to have an experience like no other in our region.”

Apart from Saturday’s awards, the Medi Spa has won numerous other awards including the 2018 Australian Small Business Champion Award for Beauty Services, the 2017 ABIA Director and Team of the Year awards as well as the global 2016 and 2017 World Luxury Spa Awards’ ‘Best Beauty Salon’ awards.
